It attracts millions of spectators throughout the world and its history has been dotted with anecdotes of various kinds. From the fact that the vice-president of the FIFA, the Italian Ottorino Barassi, decided during World War II to take the trophy in secret from the vault of a bank and hide it in a shoe box under his bed to make sure that the soldiers Nazis will not find it at the moment when the coveted trophy was stolen from a public exhibition at the Westminster Central Hall back in 1966. Despite the thieves demanding a ransom of some 17,000 euros, the security forces mobilized with intent to locate them and recover what they stole. The funny thing is that the Cup was discovered in South London by a dog that responded to the name of Pickels that, according to the story, received as a prize a lifetime supply of ... dog food.
Regarding the trophy, it had several designs throughout its history.
The Italian sculptor Silvio Gazzaniga presented the final design of the World Cup, after the first of his two presentations was accepted. Later, the artist would also design the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
Representing two people holding the world, the World Cup trophy is made of 18 carat gold with a value of five kilograms.
The winning teams are recorded in the lower base layer, and there will be no more space for the prints after the 2038 World Cup.
The Cup used to be guarded by the winning team until the final draw of the next tournament, however, it is no longer practiced. Instead, the winning team receives a golden bronze replica of the trophy.
The original is permanently housed in the FIFA World Football Museum in Zurich (Switzerland) and only leaves there when it goes to the tour of the FIFA World Cup Trophy, as well as in the final draw of the next FIFA Cup. World, in the field and in the final of the World Cup.
