Cristiano Ronaldo's road to clear his name has started, and his U.S.-based lawyer gave some interesting details about the alleged rape case that involves his client and former model Kathryn Mayorga, who filed a lawsuit against Cristiano Ronaldo after spending the night together in a suite in Las Vegas.
Peter S. Christiansen, who is in charge of CR7's legal team in the U.S., supported his client's version about his encounter with Ms. Mayorga. According to both the attorney and the footballer, their encounter was "consensual", but the real reason to reach an agreement with the alleged victim were completely blown out of proportion.
"Mr. Ronaldo has always maintained, as he does today, that what occurred in 2009 in Las Vegas was consensual in nature. Far from any admission of guilt or any ulterior motive, Mr. Ronaldo was advised to privately resolve the allegations against him in order to avoid the inevitable attempts that are now being made to destroy a reputation that has been built upon hard work, athleticism and honor," the lawyer stated.
In fact, the attorney pointed out that the documents published by Der Spiegel earlier this week in which his client appeared to be interested in keeping this matter on the down-low are utterly false.
"While Mr. Ronaldo does not deny the existence of the mutual agreement and release, his motivations for agreeing to that resolution have been twisted, to say the least. The documents cited in the lawsuit are completely fabricated, they were obtained by a hacker and can be manipulated or altered easily," Christiansen said.
Cristiano Ronaldo has faced serious backlash after this case saw the light, mainly from his sponsors. The Portuguese footballer was spotted in his hometown of Madeira with his partner, Georgina Rodríguez, trying to figure out what will be the best way to get out of this mess.
