Week 1 Review
So after what seemed the longest summer break in history, the Premier League returned and it returned to a bang. There were lots of goals, poor defending and most of all some major shocks on the opening weekend of the season. I will run down on the results and give my view on each game and keep you all in the loop with what is going on.
Arsenal 4 Leicester 3
So the season kicked off on friday night to an absolute thriller. When we mean thriller, wow, 7 goals in the opening game is what we was all looking forward too. arsenals new big money signing got his season off to a great start scoring with only his second touch in English football with an amazing header after 2 minutes. This was then cancelled out 2 minutes later when Leicester equalised from a goal from Okazaki. After this Arsenal looked a little shaky and Leicester took control off the game. In the 29th minute, Vardy got his chance and got his season off to a great start. Arsenal managed to equalise on the stroke of half time after great play from new signing Kolasanic setting up Welbeck to score a big goal for him.
The second half started as the first half finished and very end to end. Leicester again took the lead with another Vardy goal. Leicester were looking comfortable until Arsenal made a few big subs bringing on Ramsey and Giroud who both netted with 10 minutes to go to give Arsenal the lead for the first time since the 2nd minute.
A great win for Arsenal who should they have goals in the team and can come back from losing positions. Leicester will be fairly happy with their performance away from home and show they will be no push overs this season.
Goalscorers - Lacazette, Welbeck, Ramsey, Giroud, Okazaki, Vardy(2)
Watford 3 Liverpool 3
The second game of the season saw Watford take on Liverpool at lunch time on Saturday. A lot of speculation surrounding Liverpool before the game involving Coutinho who was not part of the match day squad. Watford started well taking the lead before Liverpool equalised through the very good Mane. 3 minutes later, Watford took the lead again which seemed to shake Liverpool a little.
Liverpool came out the second half fighting and looked promising with Salah and Mane running the show down the wings. Salah managed to break through and won a penalty after Gomes brought him down in the box. Firminho stepped up and converted well. 2 minutes later, Salah had a tap in to put Liverpool in the lead and looking comfortable. In what seemed to be the last attack of the game, Watford had their chance which was taken by Britos.
Watford will be very happy to have taken a point from Liverpool who will be disappointed they could not take all 3 points home.
Goalscorers - Okara, Doucoure, Britos, Mane, Firminho, Salah
Chelsea 2 Burnley 3
The first big shock of the season took place at Stamford Bridge where Chelsea by the looks of things didn't bother turning up from there pre season break. Cahill was sent off after 14 minutes for a wreck less tackle which seemed to affect the entire team who seemed to lose there heads. Vokes and Ward between them bagged 3 goals in the first half to give them a 3-0 lead going into half time looking extremely comfortable too.
Chelsea decided to bring on new signing Morata in the second half who brought one goal back in the 70th giving all Chelsea fans the hope they needed until Fabregas was the next player to receive a red card for a second booking. Luiz could easily off been sent off for a naughty head butt but got away with it but im sure the FA will take action to this during the week. Another goal for Chelsea gave them hope but Burnley held of and take 3 points away from home yet again.
Chelsea will be disappointed with the result and need to improve dramatically if they want to retain the title. Burnley will be happy with another away win like last season and will hope this season their home form improves.
Goalscorers - Morata , Luiz, Vokes(2), Ward
Crystal Palace 0 Huddersfield 3
Huddersfield will be in dream land this week after picking up an unbelievable result in their first game in the premier league. An away victory and a clean sheet shows they will not be as easy as teams first thought. 2 goals in 5 minutes in the first half got Huddersfield into a position they would never of dreamed of being in at half time.
the second half continued the same as the first half with Huddersfield playing some decent football and bagging another goal putting them 3-0 up. Defensively looked decent and gives them and supporters hope of survival even though it is early days.
Goalscorers - ward(og), Mounie(2)
Everton 1 Stoke 0
Everton look set to have a good season after some big signings and speculation off more signings. Stoke not really offering much in regards to attacking and all seemed to be Everton on the press and on the stroke of half time, history was made for Rooney after he scored on return to Goodison Park. A very dull second half and the game ended 1-0.
Everton have the potential too have a very good season this year and with a Rooney possibly playing every game, goals could be good. Stoke need to improve up top but will no doubt have enough to do enough.
Goal scorers - Rooney
Southampton 0 Swansea 0
The first bore 0-0 draw of the season was seen at St Marys. No team looked good and both ill be disappointed with their performance.
No real news to bring on this game and a bore draw here.
Goal scorers -
West Brom 1 Bournemouth 0
West Brom will be very happy with their victory and picking up 3 points. Bournemouth will be disappointed but Defoe not at 100% may be the deciding factor.
Goal scorers - Hegazi
Brighton 0 Man City 2
Brighton in their first ever game in the Premier League will be happy with their start against the league favourites. They managed to hold City out for the first half and actually looked good having a few chances themselves.
Man City started to show their dominance in the second half showing their force in attacking areas. Aguero scored and opened up Man City campaign in the 70th minute followed by an own goal by Dunk 5 minutes later.
Brighton will be happy with the game and games wont come as hard as that so will make them fell good. Man City will be happy but know they can improve.
Goal scorers - Aguero, Dunk(og)
Newcastle 0 Tottenham 2
The first game of super Sunday saw Newcastle return to top flight football. Both teams were very cautious but Tottenham looked to have the upper edge. Newcastle defended very well and looked good to stop Tottenham which not many did last season.
The second half started the same as the first half until Shelvey lost his head and stamped on Alli under the referees nose and received a straight red card. This gifted Tottenham the opportunity to score some goals which the certainly did and 2 goals in the last 20 minutes got Tottenham off to a good start.
Goal scorers - Alli, Davies
Man Utd 4 West Ham 0
In what was probably the game of the weekend, Man Utd p[roved they will make a big push this year to win the league yet again. Very attacking football and flair coming back into the game brought very entertaining football back to Old Trafford. Lukaku looked a strong player scoring twice within 10 minutes either side of half time.
the attacking football carried on in the second half with Martial and Pogba topping of a very good performance. West ham looked poor considering the signings they have made and will knock their confidence so they will want to come back from this next week.
Goal scorers - Lukaku (2), Martial, Pogba
A very interesting week of Premier league football.
