Extreme Sports - Freestyle Walking, Grinding on Rails and the History of Soap Shoes

in #sports8 years ago (edited)

I remember the first time I seen Soap Shoes. I was at the local Rollerblading arena called Skate City where all the kids love to hang out. My friend Nick Krohn had a pair of the "Clean" Style navy blue Soap Shoes. I was fascinated! I got to try them for the first time at the age of 15. The local shopping malls were charging 120 dollars a pair which was a lot of money in 1999. My friend Tyler Dahl and I made our own pair out of some old "Simple" Skateboard shoes. We got some plastic from the industrial park, cut out the center of the bottoms and screwed and glued the grind plates in. Eventually I got some pairs of authentic Soaps along with some injuries. The following series will go into detail about Aggressive Inline Skating on Halfpipe, Street and Skateparks, Skateboarding, Freestyle Walking with Soap Shoes and Heelys, Solomon and Rollerblading Grind Shoes, Parkour, Snowboarding and Footbag (hacky sack.) I hope you enjoy as much as I do.

Here is the Extremely Rare T-Bone model with a sole grind plate down the middle as well.

I had no clue this design and function of shoe existed! Neat! Artemis Innovations .. innovative indeed! resteeeeemed!

I don't remember those shoes. You and I are the same age, so I do recall trends and fashions from that time frame. I wasn't into extreme sports, so maybe that's why I don't know what Soap shoes are. I do, however, remember Heely's.

I still remember LA Gear shoes from the early 90's, with their stylish ventilation grilles on the sides. And Hypercolor clothing, that changed colors depending on the temperature!

Great post! I can't wait to try them (by being supported by you) !! ;D

I didn't even know this was a thing.

Glad you didn't crack your skull too hard! Grind on!

You should check out the film "Lords of Soaptown," about the kids who supposedly invented these - bit.ly/soaptowndvd

They look like so much fun, never heard or seen them before.
I think most these shoes are aimed at teenagers and adults not kids especially Heely's seen so many kids nearly have accidents on those things not paying attention.

Nice post! Upvoted and followed. I remember Soaps from back in the day. I was really into rollerblading and one of my friends let me try his. So much fun!

Sweet, can't wait to check it out! When I was younger all I did was skate. Def too old for all that now.

Exchellent post!!
I like your job..I follow you now :)

Awesome!

I've just got notification because you mentioned me in your comment but I didn't find any reason for this mention.

And this is why being "anonymous" online isn't that great of an idea, especially on "social" media sites.

Flagging.

I also flagged it. super annoying comment.. and now the notification content has been replaced.
notice that this is Yet Another Social Experiment. An open account, in it's description it has the posting key.

Indeed. Which was the point of my "anonymous" comment. It's an interesting idea, but until humanity evolves a bit, a couple jerks can spoil things for many who could actually benefit from posting anonymously.

This is very spammy.
