There are rumors that Kyrie was close to being traded to the Suns for Bledsoe and I'm assuming the 4th pick on Thursday. The trade was stop when LeGM (LeBron James) told the Cavs he would not resign if they traded Kyrie.
Kyrie is a Top 3 (Westrbook & Curry) PG in the world, why would they consider this trade?
The Cavs are pressing, they know they need to keep up with the Warriors but trading Kyrie isn't the answer. Even if they wanted to clear up cap room to bring in "help" for LeBron you are losing the second best player on the team. I am still convinced that LeBron is going to leave Cleveland if he loses again to the Cavs, but this shows two things:
- Cavs will do anything to help LeBron but it must be run by him first.
- No one on the Cavs is safe except LeBron James.
The rest of the off-season for Cleveland is going to be really interesting now because we know they are willing to move anyone, even if that means they won't necessarily be better than this past year. I expect them to make a big push for another star player and that could put the whole team in a uneasy spot because anyone could be traded at any minute.
Every move teams are now looking to get exponentially better. Teams can't afford to add a role player here and there when other teams are adding superstars. Next year the Warriors and Cavs should be the two best teams again, barring some crazy moves, and should play in the finals for the 4th consecutive year (Warriors go back to back).
Kyrie staying is Cleveland is more important than just next season though. If LeBron leaves after next season and Kyrie stays it will be his team. Even more importantly, who wouldn't want to come to Cleveland and build another super team with the mid 20s Kyrie Irving?
At this point Kyrie is more important for the Cavs future than LeBron because of the likihood of him staying and another super team forming after LeBron's departure.
