This past weekend was a bit biased for me. While I did watch a good portion of the Pats / Jags game, my attention was pretty on my hometown Eagles. It's almost like as a kid when your parents promise you dessert but you have to finish dinner first. You really don't want that stupid dinner, but you have to make it through so you can get that ice cream.
And ohhhhhh boy was that ice cream SWEET.
Pats v Jags recap
I really thought the Jags had this. For the first time that I can remember, Bill Belichick was pretty much out coached. The Jags game plan was simple - dink and dunk with players just running crossing routes for 5 yards, pound the ball with Leonard Fournette, and run misdirection screens to get the defense off balance. It worked for 3 quarters and that was alllll coaching.
TThen, the Brady rule kicked in. You better do something to make this game impossible for him comeback in the 4th quarter, otherwise he will beat you every time. Between Brady's heroics and Amendola playing what was probably the best game of his professional career, the Jags just couldn't stay in it.
End of the day, congrats to the Jags for making it this far. You weren't expected to be in that game and fought your heart out, just not enough maturity to get the W.
Eagles v Vikings
The main event! Yet again, the underdogs come to play and show the world that even without Carson Wentz, they can blow out the 2nd best team in the NFC. The key to this game was always the turnover game. If Nick Foles could avoid turning the ball over, the Eagles could pull out the upset with the way their defense has been playing.
Now what I didn't expect was Nick Foles to play like Joe Montana. Look at him in all his beauty....
My synopsis on this one - the Eagles protected Foles and the Vikings did not protect Keenum. Both defensive lines are incredible, and the Vikings just didn't show it. Even if Foles didn't play out of his mind, the Eagles would've won this game purely on their defensive performance.
Now, we are on to the Super Bowl. If the Eagles can follow the Jags scheme by spreading the field and go the "dink and dunk" route while stretching the field on occasion to keep them on their toes, the Eagles could pull off another big upset. E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!!
2 weeks and counting!
Did everyone feel the same when the Jags were up 20-10 in the 4th Q that Brady was in total control? The wild part is that is a defense that is up there with the best in the past 20 years.
That defense really was awesome to watch... It's a shame.
Heard that the d-line started getting tired in the 4th quarter because, while they are an incredible defense, they don't have a ton of depth. Stupid Brady...
