RE: The GOATs

in #sports7 years ago (edited)

Ali was definitely on my mind. For me 5 losses is just too much.

It could be a little unfair, because the heavyweights I think will have to fight a style with more variance. It seems like it would be hard for a heavyweight to ever be like Floyd.

Still, Floyd pulled it off. If he slipped up once then I think it opens the door for Ali and maybe Tyson or whoever else.

Ya, baseball is difficult. It's all about numbers (like you can't really "watch" a player being good as easily as you can in basketball or football.. you just know his numbers are good), and the numbers vary so much from era to era.

If I had to pick one, in their prime, to start a team with.. I'd probably just take a pitcher. And off the top of my head no pitchers even stand out to me as clear GOAT candidates. (A lot of good ones, can't think of any that really top the list.) Clayton Kershaw is really dominant, maybe he'd eventually make the list if he stays healthy and this good.

Bonds is GOAT if I had to pick someone, but I think it's too murky and too close to a jab in the dark to really crown anyone.
