Olivier Giroud is now in the ranks of the French national team legend after scoring a French winner over the Netherlands. Giroud's 32nd goal for Les Blues now surpasses Zinedine Zidane's record.

The 75th minute goal put the Chelsea striker in fourth place in France's all-time top scorer list. He was only two goals behind David Trezeguet who was third.

Giroud has drawn a lot of criticism for scoring one goal in the 2018 World Cup, although his team came out as champions. But France coach Didier Deschamps praised Giroud for all the matches he played.

Giroud ended ten goals without a goal for France and he has the opportunity to increase his number of goals in October for the next match in his country against Iceland and Germany.

Of the 32 goals scored by Giroud, only four were scored in the tournament for France, one at the 2014 World Cup and three at Euro 2016.

Zidane scored twice to help his team win the 1998 World Cup final and added three more at the 2006 World Cup, including one in the final.

Giroud must score even more on the big stage to assert himself as one of the future French legends. That opportunity can come from the final of the 2019 UEFA Nations League and Euro 2020.
