Hi fellow Steemians!
It's been two long weeks since the Monaco GP weekend. Luckily, that wait is almost over and what a GP we have this weekend!
Here are some key points to look out for.
Ricciardo's penalty
Daniel Ricciardo managed his race superbly in Monaco. He set the fastest times throughout the weekend and managed to win the race even with a faulty MGU-K (engine component). However it's being reported that he may face grid penalties this weekend due to that engine problem since he has to replace his engine parts early. At the same time, tt's also being reported that he may escape the penalty. Who knows what's going on but with him being on such a great form and challenging the big boys at the front, it would be a shame to see him starting at the back of the grid.
Lance's home ground
I personally am not a huge fan of Lance Stroll, for obvious reasons. But it is his home ground and I wish him the best in front of his local fans. He did quite well in last year's Canadian GP, finishing in the points for the first time in his career. Will he be able to replicate that?
Canadian GP brings many surprises
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard that Canadian GP has the most first-time winners (or is it one time winners...). Anyway, we could expect to see a completely new winner on this track, or an unexpected winner. Wouldn't that be exciting?
The wall of champions
Arguably one of the trickiest corners in the F1 calendar, the final corners famously named the 'wall of champions'. Even the greats like Michael Schumacher isn't immune from hitting the wall. Who will the wall consume this weekend? (Maybe Verstappen? Please don't hate me Max fans).
Brendon's last warning
There were reports from a few weeks ago that Brendon Hartley may be dropped by Toro Rosso. That speculation didn't go away when he couldn't finish the Monaco GP (not by his fault but by LeClerc crashing into him due to faulty brakes. Unfortunate). But now there are more stories suggesting he may be dropped for Lando Norris, a leading GP2 (F2) driver. While it is a speculation at this moment, Hartley will be feeling the pressure and will want to be on his best this weekend. He doesn't quite seem to have found his rhythm in F1 and he'll need to do it quick before it's snatched away.
Conclusion
Let's be honest. Monaco GP was entertaining, but it was slightly overhyped. If Ricciardo didn't experience an engine issue, it would have been an extremely boring race. But all that will change this weekend. Canada has always provided immense levels of excitement and I'm sure it won't change this time. Mercedes and Ferrari will be eager to get back on the first place and Redbull will be eager to stop them from doing it. Hamilton has dominated the Canadian GP in the last three years and I personally think this will continue. Still, the competition is fiercer than ever and I can't wait to watch the race!
