College Football Rankings Week 2

in #sports7 years ago (edited)

Here are the rankings after the first week of college football

25. Tennessee (1-0)

Even with the great comeback the Volunteers used to overcome Georgia Tech in Double Overtime they are ranked the same. Tennessee is a good team and they beat a very good Georgia Tech team. Tennessee blocked a field goal to send the game into overtime. In the second overtime the Vols  stopped the Yellow Jackets on a two point conversion to win the game.

Final Score: Tennessee 42 - Georgia Tech 41, 2OT

Next Game: Indiana State(0-1)

Total Yards: 369

          Passing Yards: 221

          Rushing Yards: 148

Total Yards Allowed: 655

           Passing Yards Allowed: 120

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 535

24. Notre Dame (1-0)

Notre Dame is a newcomer in the Top 25 and they deserve it. They showed no signs of weakness in their pure domination against Temple. After a 4-8 season last year the Irish look  strong with their new quarterback and defense.

Final Score: Notre Dame 49 - Temple 16

Next Game: #15 Georgia (1-0)

Total Yards: 606

          Passing Yards: 184

          Rushing Yards: 422

Total Yards Allowed: 330

           Passing Yards Allowed: 245

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 85

23. TCU (1-0)

TCU had no trouble at all in their home opener against FCS opponent Jackson State. TCU has not really been tested yet and they have a bit of a tougher job against the SEC's Arkansas. There is not much to say about TCU they looked good against an easy opponent and that is why they are in the Top 25

Final Score: TCU 63 - Jackson State 0

Next Game: Arkansas (1-0)

Total Yards: 542

          Passing Yards: 300

          Rushing Yards: 242

Total Yards Allowed: 65

           Passing Yards Allowed: 41

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 24

22. Florida (0-1)

Florida is still ranked because they lost to one of the best teams in the nation. Florida competed well with Michigan in the first half but in the 2nd Michigan took off. Florida I believe is a really good team but they are just not top 10 material.

Final Score: Michigan 33 - Florida 17

Next Game: Northern Colorado (1-0)

Total Yards: 192

          Passing Yards: 181

          Rushing Yards: 11

Total Yards Allowed: 433

           Passing Yards Allowed: 218

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 215

21. USF (2-0)

USF head coach Charlie Strong has got something really great going after his disappointing years at Texas. USF is the highest ranked non power 5 school and they are contending for a New Years Bowl. USF hasn't played any major teams and they will probably stay ranked around the mid teens if they continue to win.

Final Score: USF 31 - Stony Brook 17

Next Game: UConn (1-0)

Total Yards: 444

          Passing Yards: 210

          Rushing Yards: 234

Total Yards Allowed: 308

           Passing Yards Allowed: 208

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 100

20. Washington State (1-0)

Like TCU there isn't much to say about Washington State except how good they played. There were not a lot of faults for the cougars in their blowout win against Montana State. Washington State QB Luke Falk threw almost perfect missing only 6 passes out of the 39 he threw.

Final Score: Washington State 31 - Montana State 0)

Next Game: Boise State (1-0)

Total Yards: 511

          Passing Yards: 361

          Rushing Yards: 150

Total Yards Allowed: 143

           Passing Yards Allowed: 28

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 115

19. Kansas State (1-0)

Kansas State utterly destroyed Central Arkansas. Kansas State has a pretty weak schedule early this year. They don't play another ranked team until October so if they lose early on they won't have a chance at the playoff. They will most likely win all of their games before October.

Final Score: Kansas State 55 - Central Arkansas 19

Next Game: Charlotte (0-1)

Total Yards: 519

          Passing Yards: 333

          Rushing Yards: 186

Total Yards Allowed: 421

           Passing Yards Allowed: 198

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 223

18. Virginia Tech (1-0)

#21 Virginia Tech had a shootout with #22 West Virginia for their season opener. The Hokies made a great defensive stance late in the 4th quarter to seal the deal. They had beaten their Appalachian Mountain rivals for the first time in over a decade. They beat a really good team convincingly and I wouldn't be surprised if they contended for the ACC Championship this year.

Final Score: Virginia Tech 31 - West Virginia 24

Next Game: Delaware (1-0)

Total Yards: 469

          Passing Yards: 235

          Rushing Yards: 234

Total Yards Allowed: 592

           Passing Yards Allowed: 371

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 221

17. Louisville (1-0)

Louisville returning to the world of football with last years Heisman Trophy winner had some trouble with Purdue. Purdue played out their asses and almost tied the game in the 4th quarter to send it to overtime. Louisville had a bunch of turnovers and fouls and that is why they moved back a spot in the rankings.

Final Score: Louisville 35 - Purdue 28

Next Game: North Carolina (0-1)

Total Yards: 524

          Passing Yards: 378

          Rushing Yards: 146

Total Yards Allowed: 344

           Passing Yards Allowed: 293

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 51

16. Miami (1-0)

Miami played how you are expected to play against an FCS opponent. They kicked the crap out of them and that is why they moved up 2 spots in the rankings because they did what was expected of them against Bethune-Cookman.

Final Score: Miami 41 - Bethune-Cookman 13

Next Game: Arkansas State (0-1)

Total Yards: 555

          Passing Yards: 233

          Rushing Yards: 322

Total Yards Allowed: 350

           Passing Yards Allowed: 229

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 121

15. Georgia (1-0)

Georgia held a team that is known to have some big upsets in past years scoreless until the 4th quarter. Georgia had no issues with App State but they may have an issue in South Bend this weekend. Georgia is going up to Notre Dame to take on the now ranked Fighting Irish. This will be a tough game for both teams and I don't who is going to win

Final Score: Georgia 31 - Appalachian State 10

Next Game: #24 Notre Dame (1-0)

Total Yards: 368

          Passing Yards: 221

          Rushing Yards: 147

Total Yards Allowed: 284

           Passing Yards Allowed: 148

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 136

14. Stanford (1-0)

Two weeks ago we saw Stanford kick the crap out of Rice in Australia. They played very well through the air and may have another Mccaffrey on the ground. But we don't really know what this team is capable of so we will see against USC this Saturday.

Final Score: Stanford 62 - Rice 7

Next Game: #6 USC (1-0)

Total Yards: 656

          Passing Yards: 369

          Rushing Yards: 287

Total Yards Allowed: 241

           Passing Yards Allowed: 95

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 146

13. Auburn (1-0)

Once again another FCS beat down from an SEC team competing for the national championship. But Auburn is going to go from the easiest game of the year to one of the hardest. Auburn will play #3 Clemson this weekend. If Auburn beats Clemson they might give them some confidence towards their other games against ranked opponents.

Final Score: Auburn 41 - Georgia Southern 7

Next Game: #3 Clemson (1-0)

Total Yards: 535

          Passing Yards: 184

          Rushing Yards: 351

Total Yards Allowed: 78

           Passing Yards Allowed: 8

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 70

12. LSU (1-0)

LSU blewout a supposedly really good BYU team that was supposed put up more of a fight. The LSU defense looks great they only allowed BYU to have just over 100 yards passing and -5 yards rushing. LSU has one of the strongest defenses in the nation and they will be a major player in the SEC.

Final Score: LSU 27 - BYU 0

Next Game: Chattanooga (0-1)

Total Yards: 479

          Passing Yards: 183

          Rushing Yards: 296

Total Yards Allowed: 97

           Passing Yards Allowed: 102

           Rushing Yards Allowed: -5

11. Oklahoma State (1-0)

Oklahoma State vs. Tulsa wasn't even close. Oklahoma State's quarterback Mason Rudolph was on fire with the deep balls. He had 3 40+ yard touchdown passes. Oklahoma State creamed their non power 5 opponent and they are looking to do the same next week against South Alabama.

Final Score: Oklahoma State 59 - Tulsa 24

Next Game:  South Alabama (0-1)

Total Yards: 640

          Passing Yards: 308

          Rushing Yards: 332

Total Yards Allowed: 432

           Passing Yards Allowed: 188

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 244

10. Florida State (0-1)

Florida State had one of the worst opening weekends ever. They did not play well against Alabama and they lost their starting quarterback who is huge for their offense. Florida State has a bit of a breather by playing ULM this weekend but after that it is back to games in the top 25 and they need a QB.

Final Score: Alabama 24 - Florida State 7

Next Game: Louisiana Monroe (0-1)

Total Yards: 250

          Passing Yards: 210

          Rushing Yards: 40

Total Yards Allowed: 269

           Passing Yards Allowed: 96

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 173

9. Wisconsin (1-0)

Im sick of this but another great team beating the crap out of a non power 5 school. Wisconsin didn't give Utah State any room to breath. Wisconsin is looking to have another cake walk game against Lane Kiffin's team FAU next weekend.

Final Score: Wisconsin 59 - Temple 10

Next Game: FAU (0-1)

Total Yards: 478

          Passing Yards: 244

          Rushing Yards: 234

Total Yards Allowed: 304

           Passing Yards Allowed: 219

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 85

8. Michigan (1-0)

Michigan did not bat an eye against ranked Florida. Michigan took total control of the game and looked like a top 5 team. I would have moved Michigan up to 5 after their performance because Florida could not do anything with the ball nor could Florida's defense stop the aggressive wolverine offense.

Final Score: Michigan 33 - Florida 17

Next Game: Cincinnati (1-0)

Total Yards: 433

          Passing Yards: 218

          Rushing Yards: 215

Total Yards Allowed: 192

           Passing Yards Allowed: 181

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 11

7. Washington (1-0)

Even with a rocky start and strong finish against Rutgers, Washington won by enough to move up in the rankings. Washington got their act together and stopped making mistakes. The Huskies seem pretty dam good but we won't really know until they play a good team which won't be for a while.

Final Score: Washinton 30 - Rutgers 14

Next Game: Montana (1-0)

Total Yards: 368

          Passing Yards: 284

          Rushing Yards: 84

Total Yards Allowed: 309

           Passing Yards Allowed: 178

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 131

6. USC (1-0)

USC is by far the most questionable team in the top 10 after their embarrassing performance against Western Michigan. USC and Sam Darnold did not live up to the hype set before the game and were losing for a lot of it. The only reason USC won is because of their talented running backs Ronald Jones II and  Stephen Carr. The coolest thing that happened was on an extra point they let Blind long snapper Jake Olsen snap the ball, and he did a really good job. We will see how they do against #14 Stanford this week.

Final Score: USC 49 - Western Michigan 31

Next Game: #14 Stanford (1-0)

Total Yards: 521

          Passing Yards: 289

          Rushing Yards: 232

Total Yards Allowed: 357

           Passing Yards Allowed: 94

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 263

5. Oklahoma (1-0)

Another easy win against a non power 5 conference school yeah we get it. Oklahoma played great and they definitely deserve to be number 5.  But holy crap the game of the weekend is going to be Oklahoma vs. Ohio State and that should be a crazy good game.

Final Score: Oklahoma 56 - UTEP 7

Next Game: #2 Ohio State (1-0)

Total Yards: 676

          Passing Yards: 496

          Rushing Yards: 180

Total Yards Allowed: 167

           Passing Yards Allowed: 94

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 73

4. Penn State (1-0)

Penn State is a great team who blew out a non power 5 school this last weekend. Penn State is #4 but they don't play anybody great for a long time so if they lose or start looking bad early on they are going to lose their top 5 ranking.

Final Score: Penn State 52 - Temple 0

Next Game: Pitt (1-0)

Total Yards: 569

          Passing Yards: 322

          Rushing Yards: 247

Total Yards Allowed: 159

           Passing Yards Allowed: 86

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 73

3. Clemson (1-0)

Clemson is going to have to prove they are worth the number 3 upgrade this weekend against one of the top SEC teams. #13 Auburn and Clemson are duking it out this weekend and Clemson is projected to win but I think it will be really close. Anyway after losing Watson to the NFL they still look like a great team and they are in the competition for the national title.

Final Score: Clemson 56 - Kent State 3

Next Game: #13 Auburn (1-0)

Total Yards: 665

          Passing Yards: 312

          Rushing Yards: 353

Total Yards Allowed: 120

           Passing Yards Allowed: 1

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 119

2. Ohio State (1-0)

Ohio State was having trouble getting Indiana off their tail in the first half of their season opener. Ohio State did shake them off in the second half and began to breakaway from the Hoosiers hopes of an upset. Indiana was neck and neck with Ohio State and that is why the buckeyes need to be careful with Oklahoma this weekend. This will be the game of the weekend it is a top 5 matchup.

Final Score: Ohio State 49 - Indiana 21

Next Game: #5 Oklahoma (1-0)

Total Yards: 596

          Passing Yards: 304

          Rushing Yards: 292

Total Yards Allowed: 437

           Passing Yards Allowed: 420

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 17

1. Alabama (1-0)

Alabama is hands down the best team in the country. They dominated the #3 team last week and I don't think they can lose a game. I would be surprised if any team could beat them especially their next opponent the Fresno State Bulldogs. I don't see Alabama losing a single game and they have the best coach in college football and that is why they are #1.

Final Score: Alabama 24 - Florida State 7

Next Game: Fresno State (1-0)

Total Yards: 269

          Passing Yards: 96

          Rushing Yards: 173

Total Yards Allowed: 250

           Passing Yards Allowed: 210

           Rushing Yards Allowed: 40
