in #sports7 years ago (edited)

Badminton a racquet sport played indoors on a court by two opposing players (singles) or two opposing pairs of players (doubles), in which a shuttlecock is volleyed over a net and the competitions are presided by an umpire.
Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side's half of the court.

ORIGIN
According to Wikipedia The game developed in British India from the earlier game of battledore and shuttlecock. European play came to be dominated by Denmark but the game has become very popular in Asia, with recent competition dominated by China. Since 1992, badminton has been a Summer Olympic sport with five events: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles.

RULES
The following information is a simplified summary of badminton rules

Court

Serving
When the server serves, the shuttlecock must pass over the short service line on the opponents' court or it will count as a fault.

Scoring

Deciding who gets to serve first
In a major tournament, a coin toss is used to decide which side will serve first.

Points, games, and matches
Every time you win a rally, you get a point. Starting from zero, the first person to reach 21 points wins the game. In club badminton, this is usually where you stop and choose players for the next game.

To win, you need a two-point lead
You have to win the game by at least two points. If the score reaches 20–20, then 21 points are no longer enough to win the game. You need to win two clear points: two points in a row, one after the other.

Which side to serve from?
Remember that you have two service courts: one on the right, and one on the left. When the server’s score is an even number, he serves from the right service court. When his score is an odd number, he serves from the left service court.

BENEFITS FROM PLAYING BADMINTON

-- Exercise effect: When you play badminton the muscles of the body will alternately contract and relax in a very short space of time.

-- Increase metabolism: Badminton improves the cardio-pulmonary function so the body sweats naturally. Through sweating heavily, metabolism is speeded up so the body naturally carries out internal “environmental protection work.”

-- Improves appearance: “Badminton is the most direct kind of skin care” because playing will quickly make a player sweat heavily so that the skin can breathe naturally and the dirt and obstructions in the skin pores are cleaned naturally.

-- Mobility: As we age, mobility becomes limited, but staying active can help prevent these problems. Keeping mobile lubricates your joints, preventing arthritis and similar conditions from developing.

-- Weight loss: Badminton can also help with weight control because of its fat-burning and metabolism boosting qualities. Combined with proper diet, optimal weight loss may be achieved.

-- Decrease diabetes: It can decrease the production of sugar by the liver and therefore can decrease fasting blood sugar. In fact, one study from the Diabetes Prevention Program found that exercise decreased the incidence of developing diabetes by 58% even better than medication.
