Hello! Today, my post makes no sense. Rather, my thoughts are about Liverpool's claims for the championship in the upcoming season.
So, the start of the season in England is already very close. Sunday will be the first battle test of the two main contenders for the title. Klopp and Guardiola began their standard courtesy exchange. Only now it seems to me that we will not see a repeat of last season.
Liverpool did not enter the transfer market again. And without reinforcing the main squad, you won’t win the Premier League and everyone knows that. Klopp refuses multimillion-dollar acquisitions, but without them now, now, even an invincible team needs fresh blood. How did the transfer of Van Dijk and Alison affect Liverpool? The Reds won the Champions League and almost won the Premier League, but even last season it was sometimes clear that the team still needed reinforcement. Add to the attacking trio of diversity in the person of at least the same Timo Werner and Liverpool’s attack would have freshened at times, and even if you purchased at least one cool central defender, the fight with the City for the championship would not have seemed so fantastic. But apart from Werner, and on the territory of England there is someone to strengthen the attack: this is Wilfried Zaha, who has long sat in Crystal Palace, the same Salomon Rondon who has an excellent “scoring sense”, and Marco Arnautovic. And they would not have cost Liverpool dearly, but they would have perfectly strengthened the bench. But there is also the Championship and there are more than enough forwards: Che Adams, who was so successfully intercepted by Southampton, Jarred Bowen, Dwight Gale and many others.
Jürgen Klopp says that there are “newcomers” in the team and there is no need for new acquisitions, well, so let's take them apart. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Joe Gomez, Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne, add to this list the young Ryan Brewster and Harry Wilson. Five of these six players are injured, the first three players are generally contraindicated by doctors to let out on the field for a full match. Clyne did not have time to return from the lease and had already left before the end of the year with an injury. Ryan Brewster is a talent, you can’t argue, but he already received a serious injury in childhood and how it will affect his future is unknown to anyone. Remains Harry Wilson, the Welshman had a great season in Derby County, but will he not repeat the fate of Dominic Solanke?
And what do we have in total. On paper, the team has six newcomers, in fact only one and not yet the fact that Klopp will give him playing time. We add here Mane, Salah and Firmino, who spent almost the entire summer on the America / Africa Cup, and we are in danger of staying with a huge amount of injured, perhaps the shortest, bench in the league by the winter and the opportunity to be very far behind the leader of the tournament table. Is Jurgen Klopp ready for such a confluence of circumstances? And after all, if it happens that the reinforcement will be vital for Liverpool in the winter, the clubs will pump money out of it in full, since there will be nowhere to go: what price will be called, that will have to be paid. And what would Klopp win in this case? Absolutely nothing. Liverpool is very at risk.
In general, I hope that Liverpool will do without injuries, but even in this situation, only a miracle will help Liverpool win the Premier League.
