Battling to a Draw
About two weeks ago I posted Journey Into the Splinterlands, explaining why I decided to start playing the blockchain game. Now, after the last few weeks playing on and off, I have 271 battles with a player rating of 842 and ranking of 3362.
I have never played any type of trading card game before, but now that I am learning how to play and am getting a grasp on all the different aspects of this blockchain game called SPLINTERLANDS. I now understand more and more why kids still play those cards games and have major trade show events for them. I don't think they are as popular as they used to be, but just maybe blockchain technology along with games such as SPLINTERLANDS will begin to change that.
My experience playing the SPLINTERLANDS game has been great. I took the time to read a few of the basics to understand a little about the different types of cards and what they can and can't do in the SPLINTERLANDS battlefield. Now that I have played, I highly recommend that new players read up on what the different types of cards are, such as Summoners and their role in the game as well as the Monsters and their abilities on the battlefield.
When you first start to play, the game comes with FREE digital playing cards. As you play, you can either battle other players and also complete some quests on the way, which can reward you with a FREE SPLINTERLANDS Playing Card or enter tournament battles. The free playing cards in the game are just for you to play with, but any you do win while playing can be traded, rented, sold or kept in order to acquire more. Extra cards you acquire can be merged, making those cards stronger in the battlefield and also giving them more value. Also, if you win a battle, you are rewarded in Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) which have value and can be sold, traded and/or used to make purchases to strengthen your SPLINTERLANDS troops. Then, there are also Tournaments you can enter as well. Although I have not entered into a tournament yet, I do see that they have nice rewards for the winners, which again have actual cash value to be kept, traded or sold!
The next thing a beginning player should learn about the game is where to position a monster based on their special abilities in a battle. As I am starting to learn, some monsters attack from a distance and not up close, while some have defensive shields that others do not. Now that I am understanding this concept, I am having more success on the battlefield, and have risen higher in rating and rank. Rank I think is just more for bragging rights, but higher rating helps you acquire more free cards when successfully completing quests. I will follow up with more strategy as I go along and learn, but for now I want to bring up a recent battle that I had.
When I first started playing SPLINTERLANDS, I thought you could only win or lose a battle. I never gave it much thought after that. I battled and lost many more than I have won, but have learned and improved. So after several hundred battles, I started a battle against @smonsang . I lined up my Monsters getting them ready for battle based on my limited understanding of the rules for battle. The battle started as usual, then it went on to Round 2, and Round 3, then Round 5, and then Round 10 and I was like what is going on here. Most battles that I had been in so far usually only lasted a few rounds, but now Round 12?
So it went on to Round 17, and I thought maybe the game had glitched. Then came round 20 and the battle was still going. I thought there was surely something wrong, but then it finally ended after all the Monsters fatigued in Round 23 with a tie or draw. Below is a link to the battle. Hit the fast forward button because it is a long battle.

I actually think through Hearthstone trading card games are more popular than ever.
Magic also seems to be doing well and I ams ure with the success of Splinterlands and Gods unchained there will be coming more and more
!trdo
I am sure they are still popular, but I do remember seeing a time when practically every kid was walking around with a box full of trading cards, and I don't see that anymore.
I think these digital versions, with Splinterlands and now Gods Unchanined, will help further drive blockchain adoption.
I believe Gods Unchained is both an Ethereum and Steem game. Not sure but I thought I saw Steem Prize giveaways from Gods unchained. Super interesting times right now for Steem blockchain.
Pretty sure Gods Unchained is only ETH but it has a bigger following here as well.
Yeah true there were a lot of kids running around with magic, yugiyo or pokemon cards running around...probably too old school for the new breed to have it physical now maybe...

What Splinters are you using?, I'll send you a few cards... it doesn't take much to get out of the Bronze league.
Most players seem to have 4x or way more the battles I have, so I know I have more experience to gain and need some patience.
I do have a couple Untamed packs coming in too, that should be fun.
And thank you for the offer, and the tidbits of info.
Take care my friend.Hello @slobberchops I mostly have the ones that come free with the game and have won a few from the quests. I did also buy a cards in order to Level them up a little. I am learning more and more but just when I think I am getting, I get in a bad run. I almost broke out of bronze with like an 850 rating or so but that is the highest I have climbed before sliding back down into the 500's.
I sent you a few, they are not great cards but might help you a little.

Thanks @slobberchops I thought I seen some extras that I didn't understand where they came from. I truly appreciate it. I could use the help because just when I thought I was getting it and got to about and 840 rating, I suddenly kept getting my butt kicked and now find myself back in the mid 500's. Back to the drawing board. Anyhow take care and have a great day!!
I'm looking forward to seeing how the new cards affect the gameplay.
