My experience playing Splinterlands for over 9 months

Welcome to another blog about Splinterlands!

We're currently near the end of the second season where the latest update or changes introduced focus chests (daily quest). Below is a screenshot of today's loot from playing in Gold League. Having a goal of at least 11 focus chests every day seems like a nice plan, but that's not guaranteed. I like the number 11 because instead of revealing one chest at a time, we have the "Reveal All" function in opening our rewards.

I've been playing around in Gold League with my main account. Currently have 3 other accounts in Silver League, but pushed one of them into Gold League to test the renting system and rewards. Last season, we were able to achieve more than 60 seasonal chests per account. This season, we were able to do the same or perhaps a little better.

Before learning how to play Splinterlands, I needed to learn how to use a crypto exchange and complete crypto transactions. Being in Australia, I use Coinspot as my crypto exchange. I'm able to buy Hive tokens and send them to my Hive account. Hive tokens can then be swapped for Dark Energy Crystals (DEC). DEC is the main token required to make transactions in the Splinterlands Market when it comes to buying, selling, or renting cards.

Since starting to play over 9 months ago, the value of our assets or portfolio have decreased and continue to drop. One of the mistakes early on was buying cards at higher prices and then selling them at lower prices. The other mistake was not taking advice from players who already had experience in playing Splinterlands. The most useful assets to own right now is having upgraded Summoners (not financial advice) to play in the league we want to. In our case, Gold League.

Gold League is not the maximum league available when it comes to playing Battles. The leagues playable from lowest to highest include:

  • Novice (Introduction)
  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Diamond
  • Champion

The question now is where do we go from here? We continue to accumulate assets such as cards and SPS (the official Splinterlands governance token). There's also other assets such as Chaos Packs, PKM, and Hive tokens that relate to or are within the ecosystem of Splinterlands. There are nodes or licences currently for sale that are much more costly. The SPS airdrop will be completed in less than 30 days, but we will continue to stake them in the long run. There's plenty to know about that doesn't involve playing the game.

Playing the game consumes a lot of our time. Many players have thought about or even considered using bots to play for them. We don't plan to do that as playing the game ourselves is much more meaningful. Splinterlands is a fun game and I believe can last for many years to come. The mechanics of the game can get a little frustrating though, but that's the role of RNG. There are Battles that we simply can't win. We need to accept that we're not going to be able to win all our Battles.

Here comes the next topic of discussion. Focus chests are the latest thing to turn heads in Splinterlands. Draining our Energy Capture Rate (ECR) is no longer an ideal situation as our rewards diminish after playing a couple of hours each day. Hence, we have time available now to blog about it. Rewards can be discouraging when most of what we get are potions and common cards. I haven't looted a Gold Foil Legendary card for almost a year!

4 minute read. I'll take a break from here. Thanks for visiting and hope you can relate. Good luck with your focus chests. =)
