HOW TO: Protect your Splinterlands account
What if a hacker gets into my account and steals all my stuff? If you’re reading this, then you’ve probably asked yourself the same question. There have been numerous situations where people have been hacked and lost everything they worked so hard for. That’s why I decided to put together this quick guide on how to make your account as safe as can be.
I’d like to start with a few rookie mistakes that every gamer should know:
- NEVER use the same passwords as you use with your email
- NEVER share your password with anyone
- DON’T use the same password at different places.
- DON’T make your password personal, it’s best to generate a secure password.
- DON’T use a password for longer than 3 months.
Once you’ve made sure that your password is safe, we can focus on some of the things that Splinterlands offers to keep your account safe.
Account Keys
In Splinterlands you can request your Account Keys by clicking on your name in-game and selecting Request Account Keys in the dropdown menu.
Once you’ve done this, an email will be sent to your email address along with a link on which you can view your Account Keys.
I highly recommend saving these account keys offline, either written on a piece of paper or on a device that has not been connected to the internet. This way you ensure that even if hackers come into your account, they won’t be able to sell or transfer anything.
Locking/Unlocking Cards
Something I didn’t know about before was that we’re able to lock/unlock cards in Splinterlands, meaning that you will have to wait a certain number of days before you can transfer your cards after unlocking. To do this, go to your cards section and select the card you want to lock. Then just click on the Lock/Unlock button in de upper right corner.
After you’ve done this a new screen pops up where you can set the number of days needed for unlocking the cards. Remember that this means you have to wait this number of days before you will be able to transfer or sell these cards, so only use this if you are not planning to sell these cards any time soon.
Other than not being able to transfer and sell these cards without a waiting period, there are no changes to the gameplay of these cards. You will still be able to play them like you normally would.
Now that you’ve taken the required steps to protect your password and your cards, I would like to warn you about scammers. If someone DMs you asking for your personal information, then he’s probably trying to scam you or hack into your account. It’s best not to respond to these characters as they are trying to get to know you better and acquire sensitive information. A good thing to remember is that if it looks too good to be true, then it probably is.
Hopefully, by now you’ve learned how to keep your account and cards safe from hackers. Make sure to NEVER share your account keys with anyone and to keep them offline, so they won’t be able to steal your cards.
Hope this helps guys, let me know in the comments below if you have any additions to this guide for new players.
