Greetings to all the members of the Hive Blockchain community, most especially those who enjoy playing Splinterlands. This week's share your battle challenge features the visually-appealing Regal Peryton.
Getting to know you
Arguably the classiest monster in the game, the Regal Peryton is a 5-mana, rare monster from the Earth Splinter. Because I usually play in the Gold league, I use it at level 6 wherein it has 2 magic attack, 6 speed, 8 health, and the Flying ability. I frequently use it because it synergizes well with the magic buff of Obsidian and it has high evasion due to high speed and its Flying ability. Nonetheless, I think it should have more defense to be considered as a solid monster.
Let us look at one of the battles I had with it. Afterwards, let me share my thoughts on how to effectively use the Regal Peryton.
Battle analysis
I used Regal Peryton in this particular battle with these rules:
Equal Opportunity - All Monsters will have the skill Opportunity, forcing them to target the opponent's monster with the least health
Mana cap = 38
Splinters = Earth, Life, Death, or Dragon
Whenever I see rule sets that allow most monsters to attack from any position, I usually use a lineup with a Taunt monster. In this case, I chose the magic lineup of Obsidian with the Mycelic Slipspawn. I put the MS in the front position and added Goblin Psychic for the heal. I included Queen Mycelia for the shield via its Protection. I also put Mushroom Seer for the Silence (magic debuff) and possible Poison. Of course, my superstar Doctor Blight should be there. It has Camouflage so it should be safe even after MS falls. Then, I put in Regal Peryton as my secondary tank. Should MS die, I feel that Regal Peryton can hold the fort pretty well as it has high evasion, unless my opponent chooses a magic lineup also. But more importantly, the Regal Peryton is crucial in this rule set because it will most likely attack first because of its high speed. A 3-magic-damage attack could easily pick off the monster with the lowest health from the opposing team, effectively trimming down the attackers of my opponent.
When the cards were revealed, my Regal Peryton was second to attack and it easily took out Brownie. From there, my team went on cruise control to victory. However, when we look at the opponent's lineup, it seems like it was not given much thought. While his monsters would have attacked first, the summoner he used did not synergize well with his monsters. Maybe he would have been better off had he used Wizard of Eastwood instead.
Quick tips!
Use it when |
---|
Earthquake rule - The Regal Peryton has the Flying ability. I usually use it with Pelacor Mercenary, Screeching Vulture, and Spirit of the Forest. But be careful of monsters with Snare ability. |
Back to basics - Buff the magic damage using Obsidian to maximize the damage; it has a decent health also |
Equal Opportunity - It usually attacks first; it can also evade melee or ranged attacks |
Weak against |
---|
Magic Reflect - Magic reflect, especially when Amplified, can hurt Regal Peryton; better have a Tank healer or Triage |
Aim true - The evasiveness of Regal Peryton is one of its strengths |
Snare - It negates the evasiveness of Regal Peryton; and also, this will cause Regal Peryton to be hurt during an earthquake |
Rating
8 out of 10
Regal Peryton is a solid monster, especially when it is buffed by Obsidian. However, I think that it should have been given more magic defense for it to be a great monster. Maybe if it can learn Void or Magic Phase, it will definitely dominate! If there is anything I can help with understanding how it can be used, just drop a comment!
