Proposal on Reward Restructure for Splinterlands

in #splinterlands2 years ago

Our current reward economy is based, of course, on someone winning over the expense of someone else losing, which is win/lose, zero-sum, but not natural, as why would any "normal" human be happy at the expense of another human's loss/suffering. We do, however, value competition. It's how we are all raised, competitive sports, events, etc, to find the best. With our public blockchain game, I think, we can still have that competition but not necessarily have to inflict loss on another human, but instead a bot. We have plenty of bots and we should find a place for them in our economy. I propose we still have the same leagues, novice, bronze, silver, gold, diamond, and champion, but, in addition, we have in each ranked mode, modern and wild, another split into "bot" and "human".

In the "bot" split, human accounts can opt-in to do ranked play against bots only per season. Even more, Splinterlands itself can provide bots as well, to ensure there are always bots available, a.k.a PvE. There needs to be APIs for bots to use to ensure humans are always put up against bots but the bots can play against bots or humans. There are some devilish details, I'm sure, around the control and management of these bot APIs to mitigate bypassing bot registration, but those details do not fall in the scope of this already too long post. Assuming that can be done, Splinterlands can then integrate and enforce KYC in the "human" split.

Now I hear already the cries of decentralization, liberty, and freedom advocates, but let's understand this, our game economy can't grow without new players. If you believe that there are significantly more potential in finding new players that care more about growing value than decentralization, than KYC should be a requirement that needs to be centrally managed. This proposal though would still support those decentralization advocates in the "bot" split, in which KYC would not be a requirement.

A lot of interesting ideas come out of having this "bot" and "human" split. Imagine bot developers now having real and supported incentives to build and EQUIP their bots and humans who enjoy playing against the "bot"/game environment more than in the "humans-only" environment. There is no guilt in beating up on a bot. Additionally, these bot developer incentives could be based on the total collection power of all accounts, bot or human, that have opted-in for the current season. In fact, both splits would have reward pools based on the total collection power of all their opted-in accounts for that season. Again, the devilish details can be worked out in some other post.

What do you all think?
