Broken Arrows ruleset in Splinterlands - Impossible to estimate its effect

in #splinterlands9 months ago

So dear readers it is a new week and time for me to write again! This week it is "Broken Arrows" ruleset. I fear even if this ruleset makes a difference, one is barely able to prove it! :D But let's save this thought for later.

The state of Splinterlands... I do not know. I start to get the feeling aside from options of throwing more money into the game there has limited progress been made.
And I just took a look at the monstermarket only to see that Chaos Legion summoners are selling well below $0.50...

Then a new game got announced... but any news on soulkeep general release?

"Broken Arrows" ruleset however, its additional ruleset reads as following:
"Units with ranged attacks cannot be used.

Units with 2 types of attack (which include ranged) cannot be used.

Consider utilizing units with Thorns or Magic Reflect, as your opponent will have to use either melee or magic units."

So basically: If your unit has ranged attack, you will not be able to choose it for this battle.

The lineup: You guessed it! No ranged attack units included. Instead we got two lineups with a similar idea of attacking the opponent's backline. From my perspective however I was smart enough to put some expendable units at the end of my formation. My opponent however had however some heavier units with him.

Round 1 went somewhat well for me, however. I lost one of my expendable units, but thanks to my armor stat granted by my summoner Kelya each of this units is able to take the least two hits.
Meanwhile my opponent's units got a troublesome amount of damage. The real challenge for me will be his Tenyii Striker.

Round 2 and even my opponent's Serpentine Spy is gone! Another loss of an expendable unit, but my lineup was still intact. If things went smooth I should be able to defeat Tenyii Striker!

Round 3... I was just dealing way to low damage. But still 3 points of health left at opponent's Tenyii Striker and I had more than 10 health left on my various units and also some armor thus Tenyii would need an additional activation... let's just say I won!

So looking back I hope you will say "this was a nice battle", but did the ruleset had any effect? Again I fear that is impossible to say! "Broken Arrows" ruleset hindered both me and my opponent from choosing ranged attack units. But for our chosen strategies this would have had no effect, I guess. The both of us decided to attack the opponent's backline therefore ranged attack units would have probably been the first to fall victim. However each of us might have chosen a completely different strategy if "Broken Arrows" had not been in place.
