DEEPLURKER BATTLE CHALLENGE

I will be honest, this is a monster that may be in the meta right now but I just never use. I'm more of a magic deck user or anti-magic, that is either or really.

And whenever I use the water deck, I never really think of using this card, I guess I am stuck in the magic spamming era.

Anyways, I was able to luckily use this card in one my successful rank battles and let me use this as my entry to this week's battle challenge.

MAGIC VS. MAGIC: ALRIC STORMBRINGER VS. OBSIDIAN

Thank you to @freeztag for this wonderful and free to use divider! I was looking for a water deck divider but I think you haven't made one yet.

As per @splinterlands lore, here is what the DEEPLURKER is:

Terrifying to behold, Deeplurkers are a poisonous fish that dwell at the bottom of the ocean and prey on the weak. However, they are known to travel to the surface in times of dire need. Many believe that they are sensitive to the balance of elemental water magic and, when that balance is in danger, the Deeplurkers rise to attack or defend it.

Honestly, it looks like a dog that never made it on land and never got to evolve. 😅😅😅

This monster has the Opportunity ability, which is very effective in reaching those pesky middle healers. And as its description describes, it is a poisonous fish but you only get to use that when you level it up to Level 6, with around 100 BCX, pricey but very useful in high elo battles.

I was in the middle of magic spamming when I get used this card, and since looking at my opponent's brief history, it seems like he is also a magic spammer but in the form of OBSIDIAN.

And with that, I though, freak it, let's fight fire with fire but in this case, MAGIC WITH MAGIC.

If you watched my amazing battle, you will see that the rulesets are:

rulesets.jpg

  1. ARMORED UP: this give monsters additional 2 armor on top of their own or the armor given by a summoner/monster which is honestly useless when using magic monsters because magic attacks ignore shields and go directly for the jugular, in this case, hit points.

  2. HEALED OUT: wherein all healing abilities are removed from summoners/monsters, I don't know what happened with my opponent and why he still used GOBLIN PSYCHIC.

AM I BATTLING AGAINST A BOT AGAIN?!

WELL, INDEED I AM!

In addition, a 37 mana cap was imposed in this battle with all the decks available for use except for the death splinters.

So, for my summoner I chose ALRIC STORMBRINGER as I said, I was magic spamming at this moment. There was a time when you will battle with this summoner all the time but ever since Beta cards weren't made starters anymore, Obsidian took its place. I still love it though and rent it all the time.

I chose TORHILO THE FROZEN as my tank as it has Void which reduced the magic attack of enemy monsters. One thing I have learned from too much battling with magic spammers is that using Torhilo or Unicorn Mustang can easily defeat that meta. If ever I used BORTUS here, the game would be less interesting as they won't make a dent on Torhilo.

Torhilo.jpg

On the second position is the legendary reward card DJINN OSHANNUS, ever since this card's release, it has been in 2 out of 5 battles I get. I used this card, also because it has Void which was super effective in sustaining the front position when Torhilo was taken down.

Djinn Oshannus.jpg

Our week's featured card in placed in the middle as it has the Opportunity ability, even though it is a melee card, because of this ability, it can attack from the middle position and it would target the monster with the lowest health first. This ability is specially helpful in taking down enemy's healers that are usually placed in the middle.

Deeplurker card.jpg

After Deeplurker is a monster with the Snipe ability, the SNIPING NARWHAL, I mainly placed this card there because of its snipe, this would target magic or range monsters first.

On the fifth position is the flying water reward card, PELACOR BANDIT, I placed it there because if ever there are cards with Sneak, it has a high chance of evading it due to its flying ability.

And at the end slot is the ever beloved FURIOUS CHICKEN. This monster mainly served as a meat card.

Upon reviewing this battle, this actually lasted for 9 ROUNDS!

WOW!

round 1.jpg

ROUND 1

After all the buffs, mainly +1 magic, I realized that Djinn Oshannus was the only monster who benefited from Alric's buff, I guess it was better if I used Bortus.

The first round started with Djinn Oshannus attacking my opponent's tank giving out +3 magic damage directly to its hit point. His tank, Venari Knifer then attacked my tank but just caused 2 damage to my tank's armor.

Pelacor Bandit then sneakily attacked my opponent's backlane monster, Khmer Princess, it was able to give out 1 melee damage to its armor.

Elven Mystic and Venari Spellsmith continuously attacked Torhilo but because of my tank's void, they were only able to give out 2 damage instead of 4.

Sniping Narwhal then attacked Goblin Psychic removing its armor. Deeplurker then gave out 3 melee attacks to Venari Spellsmith, removing its armor too.

Elven Mystic and Psychic Goblin attacked Torhilo simultaneously leaving him with only 3 hit points. The last one to attack was my tank but missed.

round 2.jpg

ROUND 2

Oshannus attacked my opponent's tank at the start of round 2 leaving it with 1 hp, Venari Knifer then removed 2 armor from Torhilo, my Pelacor Bandit then removed Khmer Princess' armor.

Elven Mystic and Venari Spellsmith continued attacking Torhilo leaving it with 1 hp too. Narwhal then attacked Goblin Psychic which also left it with 1 hp.

Deeplurker then attacked Venari Knifer and since it has torns, it caused 2 melee damage to its armor. And with Khmer Princess's next attack, Torhilo was the first monster to go down. Goblin Psychic was the last one to attack in this round, giving out 1 damage to Oshannus.

round 3.jpg

ROUND 3

With Oshannus's first attack, Venari Knifer finally went down. My opponent's new tank, Unicorn Mustang then followed with 3 melee attacks removing Oshannus' armor completely.

Pelacor Bandit continued attacking Khmer Princess, it's like he's taking revenge in putting Torhilo down. Elven Mystic and Venari Spellsmith now focused their attention to Oshannus leaving it with 6 hp.

Narwhal then attacked Goblin finally taking it down. That was followed with Deeplurker's attack to Khmer Princess, revenging Torhilo finally.

round 4.jpg

ROUND 4

Oshannus attacked Unicorn Mustang first but was only able to give out 2 magic damage instead of 3 since Mustang has Void too. Unicorn attacked next and was able to dish out 3 melee damage to Torhilo.

Pelacor Bandit continue attacking my enemy's backlane cause 1 hp from Venari Spellsmith to be gone. It then attacked, together with Elven Mystic leaving Oshannus with only 1 hp.

Narwhal attacked Elven Mystic and Deeplurker attacked Elven Mystic finally taking it down.

And with that, only 2 monsters were left after round 4 from the opponent's side.

round 5.jpg

ROUND 5

Oshannus attacked Torhilo again, giving out 2 magic damage. Just when I thought Oshannus would be taken down by Unicorn's 3 melee attacks, it miraculously missed but was then taken down by Elven Mystic's 1 magic damage. But before that, Pelacor Bandit was able to dish out 1 melee damage to her.

Narwhal took revenge yet again with its 2 range damage taking Elven Mystic down. Deeplurker then removed Unicorn's armor.

round 6.jpg

ROUND 6

Round 6 started strong for my opponent as it dished out a whooping 3 melee damage to Deeplurker. That was followed by Pelacor and Narwhal putting Unicorn's hp to 3. And just as I though Deeplurker's 3 melee damage would put it down, it unfortunately missed.

round 7.jpg

ROUND 7

Round 7 saw the demise of Deeplurker, just as I thought this battle would end after round 6, it seems like it will snowball. I was left with Narwhal as my tank and since it is a range monster, it cannot continue attacking from the first position.

Good thing I still have Pelacor Bandit and it kept attacking Unicorn Mustang even if it only has 1 melee attack.

round 8.jpg

ROUND 8

The eighth round then continued with Mustand removing Narwhal's armor and with Pelacor Bandit's continued 1 melee damage.

round 9.jpg

ROUND 9

Round 9 saw the inevitable demise of Mustang, even though it was able to take my Narwhal down, Pelacor Bandit only needed 1 melee attack to win the battle.

I WON!.gif

Look at that winning smile! 😁😁😁😁😁

All righty, let's have a quick analysis of my battle.

I will be all honest here and tell you that I rarely use this card as I am more of a magic spammer. I was using this card in one of my rank battles in the hopes that I will win.

I almost actually lost this battle, good thing I have Narwhal's armor and high hp until the very end.

This battle was not very strategic as when I used Alric, my initial intention was to use at least 4 magic cards but I was only able to use 1. It was still good since I still won the battle but I guess if there is something I would change from this fight is to use Bortus instead of Alric, with that, my tanks would be untouchable by magic and this could have easily lasted for only 5 to 6 round.

Am I in love with Deeplurker after this battle? That would be an honest NO, it would still take time for me to get used in using him but for now, I will stick to spamming magic.

I actually do see Deeplurker being used a lot in my battles especially with the summoner Kelya Frendul but like I said, it's useless with magic since it disregards the monster's armor unless the ruleset is WEAK MAGIC which would attack armor first instead of hp.

All righty, I've been writing and personalizing this post for close to 3 hours now so I hope you appreciate it! Until next post! Byeeeee!
