Weekly Battle Challenge : Time Mage
However, with such power also comes great risk. The future is ever-changing, and the ripples of time can affect everyone. Time Mages must undergo strict training to ensure they don't abuse their power and use it only for the most dire of circumstances.
Introduction
Hello guys welcome to my blog. This week's battle challenge theme is Time Mage. Time Mage is a Rare Life card in the Chaos Legion set. I play this card at level 1 and the stats for Level 1 are as follows :
Mana Cost - 4
Health - 3
Speed - 4
Damage - 1 Magic Damage
Ability - Slow(Reduces the Speed of all enemy Monsters by 1)
Second Ability - Rust(Reduces the Armor of all enemy Monsters by 2)(level 5)
Stats at other levels are follows :
Current Market Stats
As of writing Price/BCX vary from $0.17 to $0.30. As Time mage is available in Ghost cards so I don't think many people in lower league are buying it. When the Ghost cards stop giving rewards, sale of this card should increase because currently this is the only Life card which has a slow ability at level 1. Overall there are only four cards which have a Slow ability at level 1.
Comparison With Other Cards
First card that comes to mind is Creeping Ooze which is a neutral 1 mana monster Vs. Time Mage on the other hand is a 4 mana cost Life mage. Both have a slow ability. Purpose of the both card is different. Creeping Ooze is generally just used for it's slow ability while the Time mage can be used as a damage dealer and it has a high speed. Per BCX cost of Creeping Ooze is at $0.52 which is more than double of Time Mage.
Other cards Like Baakjira, Boogeyman and Diamond Dragon also has a Slow ability at level 1 but all of them belongs to different splinters so direct comparison isn't possible.
Anyways Let's get into the battle. Here's the line up :
Summoners Used :
Ruleset :
(Explained from left to right)Super Sneak - All Melee attack Monsters have the Sneak ability.
Little League - Only Monsters & Summoners that cost 4 Mana or less may be used in battles.
Mana - 25
Splinters Allowed - Fire, Earth (leaf icon), Life (Star icon) and Dragon (eye icon).
Thought process
Fire - Fire is a good option in little league and sneak ruleset as it has plenty of good low mana monsters with various abilities. Antoid Platoon with shield ability is a very good tank in little league. But it is vulnerable to magic attacks and Fire doesn't have that many low mana Magic damage and I wanted to do load up on magic damage. So I didn't choose Fire.
Earth - Earth Splinter has really good low mana Magic team and paired with Obsidian, magic damage output would be really high. But these magic monsters have low health as well so because of that they can die early. So I didn't choose Earth
Life - Life Splinter is full of low mana monsters of melee, archery and magic damage. Also I have rented Lorna Shine so she can allow my monsters to sustain with her divine shield. So because of it's variety and better sustainability I chose Life Splinter.
Dragon - A dragon summoner allows you to use any of available Splinter. I only had him which gives a +1 Armor and it could help to counter sneak attack but magic damage would still be a problem so I didn't choose dragon.
Battle
Round 1
My Pelacor Conjurer died after taking 4 all the hit from sneak monsters. There was only 1 miss. I was expecting 2-3 misses.
As my team had no melee other thank front tank my monsters were able to target enemy tank which is on brink of death.
Round 2
Opponents First three monster died without getting a hit as I had more speed than him thanks to the Time Mage.
Remaining enemy monsters targeted my healer because of it will likely die in next round. Tho it did managed to get couple of heals off.
Round 3
My Venari Crystalsmith (Healer) died.
One more opponent monster is dead.
My Xenith Monk took a beating this round and will likely die in next round
Round 4
Now opponent has only one monster left which is Xenith Monk (Level 2) with self heal.
If didn't go with Lorna Shine I would have lost because of healing.
I had 4 damage per round which overcame the healing and I won the match.

Cards Used with explanations :
(All cards are level 1 and Battle is from Silver 3 league)
Xenith Monk :
I placed Xenith Monk in the front. Xenith Monk is a neutral monster and I used it as a tank as it has good health and speed. With divine shield and a healer i thought it can be a good tank.
Time Mage :
At second position I placed Time mage as in the back it would be vulnerable to sneak attacks and i wanted her slow ability to last for awhile. Also it has 4 speed so there was a possibility of it dodging attacks if it comes to first position.
Light Elemental :
At third position I placed Light Elemental as it was my main Damage output with 2 magic damage. I placed it in middle of my line up so that It doesn't come to first place early and is safe from sneak attacks. It also has Flying ability and paired with Time Mage's slow ability probability of it dodging melee and archery damage was high.
Venari Crystalsmith :
At fourth position I placed Vernari Crystalsmith because it is an archery unit and these are generally placed in the back. I used her for it's Tank healing ability. I love this card. It has good health and there aren't many healers available at level 1.
Pelacor Conjurer :
At fifth position is placed pelacor Conjurer to tank few hits from sneak attackers and because it has flying ability there was high chances of it dodging enemy attacks.
Doctor Blight :
At last position I placed Doctor Blight because it has Camouflage ability which as the name suggests camouflages itself from enemy and enemy can not attack it unless it is in first position. So naturally it's position is last as this would allow him to survive for the whole game. It also has Affliction ability which when applied to a monster prevents it from healing.
Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?
Yep it did work out fine this time. Well that depends on ruleset.
Do you like the (monster)? Why or why not?
I like this monster. Tho it's usage depends on the situation. In little league or if you are expecting your enemy to be high speed then this card can be used. It has 1 magic damage as well so may be it can be paired Delwyn Dragonscale to buff it's magic damage. Overall this is a good card for it's mana cost.
Hope you like my post. Thank you.
