Daily Quest Reward 4.14

Today's quest was to win 5 battles using cards from the Water splinter. I figured this would be pretty easy, but it actually took 8 battles to get 5 victories and complete the quest - a little longer than I'd thought. Normally when I play the Water splinter, I choose the summoner Alric Stormbringer to get the +1 magic damage and I tend to like using Serpent of Eld as the tank along with as many magic monsters as I can afford Mana-wise.

With today's battles, I ran into some trouble with this strategy as half of them were low Mana cap battles, so I couldn't afford many magic monsters. The ones I could afford had such low health they were at risk of getting killed off almost immediately.
I probably should have abandoned the Serpent of Eld for those battles since he costs 7 mana and used a cheaper tank so that I could afford more magic monsters, but I was rushed at the time and didn't do that. One of the other players did choose a cheaper tank and was therefore able to beat me pretty easily.
This player chose Spineback Turtle as their tank, with 2 magic monsters and a healer for support. I'd chosen Serpent of Eld again, along with 2 magic monsters and no healer. So for that battle, the healer made all the difference in who won.

In one of my other losing battles, my opponent used the summoner Bortus to take away the +1 magic buff for my monsters - the same strategy I used yesterday with the Fire splinter.

Debuffing was just as effective for this player as it was for me, too.
For this particular battle, the rule-set only allowed us to use either Water or Dragon summoners. So this was a sensible choice of summoner, since they could easily guess that I would use the more common choice, Alric.
Most of my other battles went pretty smoothly overall with half of the battles having high Mana caps, which made winning them much easier since I could afford monsters with higher health and more magic damage.
My reward for today was a pretty nice common Water monster for my collection -
