You can't *GIVE* too much on Hive - a simple breakdown of how I approach Hive Social Media.

Good morning Hivers and Splinterfriends!

This is going to be part of a series where I share what I've learned on my Hive journey. My goal for this series is to help people improve their Hive Experience.

What do I mean by "Hive Experience" - I am using that term as the sum of their interactions, posts, content and yes... Reward :)

In order to understand something, I always try to reduce it to an extremely simple metric... as simple as possible... so simple... Homer Simpson would get it!

untitled.gif

I apply this principle to almost everything in life. Once I can understand something in this way, I can then explain it in a manner almost everyone can understand. My mother has this ability and thankfully I picked up on it 😄

So how do I simplify my Hive Social Media experience?

Term: Hive Social Media = Hive SM or HSM to make typing easier 😁

Easy!! I break it down into two categories... [Gives] & [Gets].

Yup. I summarize and sort everything I do into these two categories and that's it.

untitled.gif

I suppose knowing that doesn't actually help much, unless I also share how I apply it... which is not as simple as stating the two categories and involves a bit of human psychology and the understanding of what Hive is about... and you guessed it - this... is the part where most people struggle.

Let's start from the top gang - why do you post on Hive Social Media?

For most people, myself included when I first started... it was something along these lines:

"Holy crap!! I can earn Crypto for making Social Media posts!! Oh fuck bro, I am gonna be RICH!!! I mean - people love my [Insert: Facebook, Insta, Twitter, etc] so I just need to post that here and BOOM!!! CRYPTORICH!!!!!"

It's ok... don't be ashamed to admit that - it's not like I can read your mind... 😳... you searched for what in your browser history?!? OMG just burn your computer bro...

untitled.gif

Hahaha - just kidding, I am sure you are a perfect lil angel and not a total deviant degen... but then again... you're in Crypto 🤔

Anyways - back on topic... you "probably" came here with the hopes and expectations to make some posts and earn some Crypto... we all did.

Ok... nothing wrong with that... but let's hit it with the [Simplify Beam] pew pew =========> That is a [GET]. You want to [GET] something from Hive Social Media.

Hmmmm... interesting... again - there's nothing inherently wrong with this. I As human beings, we all want to [GET] things: Food, Water, Shelter, Stuff... etc...

In NORMAL society, we usually have to [GIVE] to [GET].

Example: You pay [GIVE] for food [GET] - you pay through a combination of Money and/or Time... which ultimately simplifies to just Time but that's a topic for another post.

Let's just say we use Money for the sake of this post.

Once you pay [GIVE] for the food... you no longer have the Money... but you received the food [GET].

Pay Attention to this next bit.

ON HIVE THIS IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

One of the FIRST things you need to understand about Hive SM... Your PRIMARY [GIVE] is to UPVOTE someone else's post. SUPER. DUPER. IMPORTANT.

untitled.gif

Let's imagine this scenario in the Real World... you walk up to a friend and they ask you for $1. You might give them the dollar (I hope you would... they're your friend!).

Ok cool... the next day... another ask... and another and another and another... That would grow old REALLY QUICK right? They are asking for a [GET] and you'd probably start avoiding them because you know they'd hit you up for that dollar... 😒

But let's reverse it... you walk by your friend and BOOM!! In addition to a crisp high five... they say "Hey buddy, here's $1"... and you'd be all "whaaaaaaaaaat, why'd you gimme this dollar bro" and they're just like "Dude, I just felt like sharing $1 with you, have a great day!!"

You'd think that was weird but then it happens the next day and the next day and the... You'd be pretty stoked to see your buddy right?!? This is a [GIVE].

CaptainDingus Rule #1: You need to [GIVE] if you want any hope of receiving a [GET].

The best part about HSM and the Primary [GIVE]... when you Upvote someone... you will grant them an amount of Crypto... the method of calculation for this is a bit complicated but basically by upvoting a post, comment, video - whatever... you are [GIVING] that Author some Crypto...

untitled.gif

Unlike the Real World however... this does NOT come out of your Account Balance... in fact... wait for it... 50% or HALF of that Vote is given to the Author but the OTHER HALF... IS GIVEN TO YOU.

untitled.gif

SUPER. DUPER. IMPORTANT. PIECE. OF. KNOWLEDGE.

How is this possible?!? That's a Two-Parter and you have to understand how the Hive token is generated and distributed.

The first part is actually EASY - YOU aren't actually giving someone the Crypto...

The second part is is where it gets tough... but essentially the way Hive is generated and distributed is as follows:

Every day, X amount of Hive is "created". To "earn" your piece of that, you must interact with Hive - vote, comment, share, post, etc... Each action awards you some percentage of the total Hive created that day.

When you "Upvote" someone, you are marking them for Reward Distribution... So how is this Reward Distribution calculated?

X = Hive Generated. Y = Your Staked Hive Balance (Staked Hive is "Powered up Hive" or Hive Power). Z = Upvote Percentage.

Let's say you have 10,000 Hive Power... If you were to Upvote someone with your MAXIMUM AWARD potential... that would be about .1 Hive in "Rewards".

You can do roughly 100 of these 100% Upvotes per day and it regens and just under 1/h... so use them wisely... Most people aim to use 20% or less, so they can do that every day (20 Max Votes).

Of that .1 Rewards... the Author of the post will receive half of it... BUT YOU GET THE OTHER HALF!!!

untitled.gif

That's right... unlike ANYWHERE else... Here on Hive... for every [GIVE]... you receive an equivalent [GET]!!!

I am going to stop here or else this will turn into a THESIS... I want to avoid that, so you can absorb it all in small increments.

Summary of important points thus far

  1. Everything you do on HSM can be broken down into a [GIVE] or a [GET]... most people try to [GET]... but I have found that the people who make up the Hive Community GREATLY reward those who are focused on the [GIVE].

  2. If you are here to "Make posts and get a bunch of Crypto"... that has never worked, from what I've seen... Perhaps if you made an "OnlyHives" or whatever lmaoooooooooooo

  3. If you want to [GET]... you MUST [GIVE]... but the best part is... it won't cost you anything!!!

  4. This isn't Facebook, Instagram, X or anything else... who cares about your "Follower/Following Ratio"... If you want people to follow YOU... Go follow THEM... interact with their posts if you like what they're saying... upvote their stuff and you might get a follow back

  5. Invest in Hive or else why should a whale invest in you... which they are doing by upvoting your content.

  6. The more Hive Power you own, the more you earn... don't take some short term gains by selling off your post rewards... go after greater long term rewards by powering that up and BOOM... it'll start snowballing!

I hope these tips are helpful - stay tuned for more!!

That's all I have for you today folks!! Thank you for reading and I would LOVE for you to join me in game!!

Well explained, too many people on Hive believe that making content equals 'giving'.
It would nice if this concept was received by many of the new users that eventually will flow it, it could save them a ton of frustration.

I hope I am able to create an easy to follow series on here for them :)
