We often hear "rigged" from online poker players because they suffer a "bad-beat" or go all-in with pocket Aces or Kings and they get cracked by a set on the flop or river from a smaller pair etc. This is very typical of the angry player who is on the losing end of a higher probability hand etc. As an online player and a live poker player it can get real annoying having to listen to players whine when they lose. The whining happens on all online poker platforms and it usually comes from people who don't understand RNG (Random Number Generator). It also occurs from those who don't understand two main differences between live poker and online poker. The main differences being the number of hands dealt and the other one being that players are not face to face with other people.
How can the number of hands dealt make the appearance of a "rigged" game?
Well, it's quite simple math actually.
More hands=More Bad Beats
The action at an online table runs about twice as fast as a live poker table. So all situations are going to occur twice as much or somewhere within that range.
I.E. If the probability of occurrence is 10% and in a live game you see 30 hands/ hour then you should expect this situation to occur 3 times. In an online game you may see 60 hands/hour so the probability of occurrence is 6 times. This will happen for all situations and cards dealt. So the mind sees situations happen more often in online poker than it is used to in live poker and immediately assumes things are "rigged" when in fact the probability is exactly the same.
How does not being face to face make things different?
The point of not being face to face with other players revolves around the fact that online players are more likely to call down large bets and raises with unlikely draws because they are not going to be publicly humiliated like they would at a live table. The only fear an online player has is being mocked in a chat box. This also leaves a window open for seeing more bad beats which in turn may make an online poker game look rigged.
The fact of the matter in both situations is that it makes more sense to just tighten up your online poker game as there are going to be more bad beat situations than in live poker, but not due to the game being rigged but rather the fact that more hands are dealt. Stop crying "rigged" when you lose and play your game the best you can. You will win the respect of your fellow players that way as opposed to looking like a sore loser baby.
If you haven't already joined the Steem Poker League I would recommend you do so at www.lucksacks.com

YOU look like a sore loser baby!
;)
this was great info dawg, for serious.
xoxoxo!
Nice explanation dawg. Maybe this should be pinned in the discord chat.
By the way, I love it when people whine about losing. Their grief gives me joy. It also lets you know who doesn't play much. We all face bad luck when we play a lot of games. It's called gambling. Chalk it up and move on.
Exactly Chops. :) The RNG used for online sites such as lucksacks spits out combos based on probability and doesn’t know the cards or even what is being calculated for that matter. Just simple math. Yes, chalk it up and move on is great advice as well. See ya at the tables! :)
I’ve still never ever had a fucking Royal Flush.
Me either. Not even 1 in my entire life. :)
And you’re old ;)
Cant beat a live game eh. I believe they both have their advantages.
I went to Vegas maybe 10 years ago for a holiday and for a bit of poker aswell. First time and all that..
It was great sitting at the tables taking it all in.
I had won a few hundred that night playing poker and decided to sit down at a $1 and $2 table and remember sitting opposite an old guy.
We chatted and I kicked his ass a few times and then he asked what I did for a living.. At the time I worked in a factory and told him so.
I asked him if he was still working and he replied that he was the owner of Sonic Burger. A rather large burger chain in the US.
My game changed and I was scared to play him in hands...
because I knew of his wealth and success I couldn't play properly...
Strange. So now I dont ask..
Yeew.
Very interesting story. Yes, Sonic Burger is a large chain here in the US. I could see how that would Tilt your game a little bit. Strange how the brain will automatically prioritize a human being based on material wealth or other meaningless attributes. Probably due to years of mental conditioning from the media, news outlets, internet, marketing and pedestal placing of those with larger levels of wealth accumulation. Nothing actually changed except a psyche shift in your brain. Cool story.
True and true. I have always been scared of wealth and power.
Not so much nowadays as I value my personal attributes more than money or fame.
Back then I did not.
Keep up the good work Dawg.
Will see you at the tables soon.
You're right but I've seen some hands online that are just insanely crazy. One that I'll always remember was a hand late in an Ultimate Bet tournament where 3 players ended up all in preflop. Hands were AA vs KK vs 99. KK had everybody covered. Flop comes A99. Turn card K. River card K. It was the craziest hand I've ever seen.
Steemit is rigged my friend.
Not sure what Steemit has to do with an online poker post. If you believe Delegated Proof of Stake is rigged that is your opinion. Thanks.
How'd you rig it @rawdawg??? Agreed on the number of hands, in live you don't see as many bad beats, but you probably don't see as many premium hands either.. I've seen quads hit like 3 times this week, maybe that many ever in live games
Yes, the probability of seeing everything is going to be increased by the frequency of hands dealt. Premium hands included.
Quads by the river have a 0.186% chance of occurring. About 27 hours of online poker and you should see quads hit 3 times when river is shown at approximately 60 hands/hour. Sometimes more depending on pace of games etc.
