One Idea You Will Like About Each Major World Religion

Each of the world's major religions have intelligent people who can eloquently discuss the main ideas behind it. Unless you simply want to practice one religion, you might be open-minded enough to adapt your beliefs to include the most spiritual ideas from each major world religion.

Here is one idea you will like about each major world religion

Hinduism: Many Different Paths to God

A common misconception about Hinduism is that they don't believe in one supreme God. Since there are many different gods portayed in Hindu culture, this religion can be easily misunderstood. In fact, the belief in one supreme God is ever-present throughout Hindu religious beliefs. However, this isn't to say that the common human that you and I doesn't have access to God. We are God, as Krishna helped teach us

Hinduism was described to me by a Hindu man as the collective result of what several different tribes and villages believed God to be. For example. One village worships the lake, another worships their leader, and perhaps another one sees God in everything. In Hinduism, all of these paths lead to God. There are also four specific heavily detailed paths to God that Hindus can choose from if they are on a spiritual journey.

Buddhism: There is no Self

When we see Jim Carrey making headlines for discussing how he doesn't exist, this is the idea that he is resonating with. In Buddhism, scholars will teach that there is no such thing as that permanent, unchanging self. What there is, then, is one collective that we call humanity.

We are the worst in the humanity, and the best. We are all connected. Buddhists will see the "God" in everything and everyone, regardless of your race, species, of social status. To reach nirvana, according to Buddhism, is to realize that there is no self, and that you don't have an individual soul.

Islam: Ramadan

The Muslim holy month of Ramadan is one of the most spiritually and physically challenging things that a person can attempt. If you are unfamiliar with what Muslims do, they will not drink water or eat food while the sun is visible for one whole month each year. Anybody who thinks that this is a walk in the park simply hasn't ever tried it.

Outside of realizing what it is like to be poor, Ramadan is a spiritually eye-opening and bodily detoxifying experience which binds families closer together and promotes existential thinking. It has also been scientifically argued that fasting can cure various diseases, and help the body to function optimally. Muslims will also remark that it is good to give your bodily organs a break every now and then. If you are struggling to understand Islam, try fasting for an entire Ramadan.

Christianity: The Greatest Commandment

image

There isn't a major religion which doesn't respect the teachings of Jesus. Did you know told his followers that the greatest commandment is that "The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength... the second is this ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

In other words we can see that Jesus agreed with the teachings of Hinduism and Buddhism regarding the oneness that spiritual scholars refer to as "God." He also specifically agreed that all life should be treated with love and respect. This is one of the reasons that many people eventually choose to see all religions themselves to be interconnected.

More Information:

This is only the tip of the iceberg if you are interested in taking in information from each major religion and creating your own spiritual worldview. In my book, "The Spiritual Revolution" you can find some of these ideas and a much more detailed analysis about how each world religion has some sort of truth, and how they all interconnect. Salam, Shalom, Namaste, all that.

This is an error. I cited the source, but not the one you have. It's from the Bible.
