Lose Yourself In The Mantra Of Waterfalls

in #spirituality8 years ago

Rejuvenate your being through mantra, and sonic marma healing. Our modern lives are filled with excess of every kind. Perhaps central to all of this is our excessive mental chatter. Our minds are constantly spinning with obsessions, worry, fear, anxiety, excessive thoughts and repetitive habitual mind agitations of all sorts.

Illusive Arch

Illusive Arch
By: Kevin Benedict Photography
Ragged and overhanging portions of the canyon walls conspire with a fallen tree to create the illusion of an archway entering the verdant confines of Oneonta Gorge, in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, Oregon.

Oneonta Gorge is another of those places that rose higher and higher on the must-see list as my passion for photography has grown over the years, so it was awesome to finally get there while on a fantastic photography outing with Sky Matthews last month. We got into the gorge a little late, as the morning light had already gotten quite harsh on the higher portions of the canyon walls, and quite a crowd of people had already begun working their way up the gorge toward the waterfall, the cold water being little impediment in the unseasonably hot and sunny weather. Since we were planning to stay in the gorge to see how the light would change throughout the day, we had plenty of time to contemplate different compositions that might work with the conditions of the day and that could possibly be photographed during brief lulls in the steady stream of visitors.

For a good while I found myself focusing too much on always looking deeper into the gorge and rarely looking back toward the entrance. When I finally did turn around and pay attention, I noticed that the shape of the gorge walls appeared to close in above from certain perspectives--which looked particularly cool with the golden sunlight visible back near the "logjam" at the entrance to the main portion of the gorge--and so the search began for a place where an illusion like this could be captured. Needless to say, it took a little while, but I did finally find this location which I think communicates the effect fairly well.

If you look closely, you can see the next group of visitors surmounting the log jam under the "archway" in the distance. While the large number of people moving in and out of the gorge did not make landscape photography easy that day, a place as beautiful as Oneonta Gorge is a place to be shared happily with all comers.

Thanks for visiting.

Avalanche Lake

By: Paul Domsten
After a 2 mile uphill hike, we reached Avalanche Lake. It was a nice surprise to see calm waters creating the reflections. The hike was almost surreal in some places. The huge canopy of trees to the serene waterfalls along the way. Almost what you would see in the movies. A beautiful way to spend the afternoon.

It's hard to see in this picture but there were a few waterfalls coming down off the mountain flowing into the lake. When I saw this place, I was so hoping I could capture the shot to show it's true beauty.

This shot was a little tricky to shoot as I had to walk out on some partially submerged logs, set up my tripod and try not to fall in.

Lush Summer at Hooker Falls

Had an occasion a couple of days ago to swing by Hooker Falls and enjoyed spending a little time listening to the roar of the falls while capturing the scene. I'm always so blown away by how lush and green the mountains are by the end of June. This is such an inviting swimming hole, I'm sure there will be a few people enjoying the 4th of July Weekend here.

Glugggafoss or Merkjafoss, as this waterfall is also called due to being formed by the river Merkja, is situated near Langbrok and Euyjafjallajokull in South Iceland. I thought it to be so exceptionally diverse when being seen from different angles that it deserved a tableau to see it as I could see it from all its angles.

Logs and Falls

Logs and Falls
By: Ray Hennessy
Two very large fallen trees really help to make this photo work. The first obvious log is on the left angled in towards the main falls. The second is laying flat along the water in front of the falls. It is this second tree that helps to create a calm pool in front of it which created the one somewhat clear reflection of the falls in it. I always find larger waterfalls a bit more difficult to photograph then small falls. With larger falls there are so many compositions to be had that still feature the falls and it really takes a lot of thought and moving around to find something visually interesting that's not just "here is a waterfall." I don't quite think I've nailed the technique yet but I do feel I'm getting better and better with each return visit to the beautiful waterfalls of Ricketts Glen. Taken in Benton, Pennsylvania. ~ 5/22/16 - 3.0 sec at f/16 - ISO50 ~ 24 mm ~ 24-120 mm f/4

A nice little waterfall, but a damp squib for them brought up on the roaring, plunging types. Disappointment was writ large on some faces :)

Another shot of Secret Falls on the foothills of Mt Wellington, Tasmania. It is only a small waterfall that is off an unmarked informal track. A week after I took this shot we had very heavy rains, so the images i've been seeing of these falls recently have really heavy flow - almost like a different waterfall.
I came here with my kids - they enjoyed trekking down the steep informal muddy track, while I did the 'I'm not freaking out' thing while trying to help them down.
My eldest son also got some great shots from here - we both shared my tripod and I think I got 4 shots and he got about 20!

Bruarfoss

Bruarfoss
By: Nancy King Photography
My husband and I decided to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary with a trip to Iceland. We've decided it was the best vacation that we have ever taken. We rented a "Happy Camper" van and camped all over the island for 2 weeks. This was one of our 1st stops. It was high on my "must see" list. It's off the beaten path and we had the place to ourselves at 4 am. We were hoping for some color in the sky, but just had grey skies. Bruarfoss is magical, brilliant blue glacial water flows over black lava rocks. It's not very big, but all the cascades and the crack down the middle gave us lots to work with.

The beautiful silky smooth water of Kodaikanal lake!
By: KS Photography!
The beautiful water of the Kodaikanal lake looks so white and pristine. Coming down from the hills and entering the lake, the water flows over the rocks and pebbles, that reflect the golden light of the sun at the bank of the lake. The water was cold but I found it tempting to step into the water to take a shot. The water looked so magically beautiful flowing through the rocks, sometimes bringing with it fallen dried leaves.

Sunset at the neighborhood pond. This shot only works around the summer solstice when the sun is north enough for the sunset to be clear of the trees.

Anyhow, I've shot this lake/pond a crazy number of times. In fact, I swore off this pond at one point because I was tired of shooting it. I'm surprised I hadn't come up with this composition until now. This one worked out much better than I envisioned when I headed out with the camera.

Chasing waterfalls across a fairytale-like forest

Chasing waterfalls across a fairytale-like forest
By: Manuel.Martin_72
Well, a couple of weeks ago I had the great pleasure to finally meet my friend Sam from the USA. We know each other from the Internet … sharing the same passion for landscape photography. And finally after such a long time he could visit me in my country Switzerland. Wow! That was so exciting and cool :-) It was clear that I showed him our forests in front of our home, the amazing Rheinfall (bad having too much tourists and bad light) and of course a wonderful and enchanting small forest but with some outstanding waterfalls as you can see in my image.

Sam, my dog Giorgio and I arrived at this place in the afternoon. But since the weather was bad anyway, the location was perfect to make some shots in the forest. He he he … I remember that I said to Sam: „Hey Sam … be careful because the ground is very very slippery!“. If only I had not opened my mouth!!! My next words were: „Woahhhhhh!!!!“. Next I saw the world from a completely different perspective … and by the way … the moss-covered stones are very nice from below he he he. But fortunately my little baby (my cam) was safe!

Thanks Sam for the wonderful time and I hope we can repeat this :-)

Thank you for your time and interest in my photos, your visit is most appreciated :-)
