I would love to talk about BALANCE. What do you do for yourself daily? To keep in alignment with your intentions?
I'm usually of the viewpoint that one can't pour from an empty cup, therefore self care must be front and centre in order to give to others from a place of love & integrity.
The struggle is real though, I've learned this lesson the hard way over the years, my children are young, and always came first, it took me a long time to realize that it was worth the effort to find that balance between there needs and my own..
yesterday I spend 24 hours with a friend at the lake, away from home life, chores, plans, and expectations.. it was wonderful, peaceful & also brought up a ton of emotions and triggers when I arrived back home to my reality. Which is busy, school work to plan, Laundry, garbages, recycling, animals to care for, lunches to pack, where's all the dance shoes? Oh shit! We have to leave for violin lessons like 10 minutes ago!
I fought back tears today even though my cup was full... or should be full. Because despite my greatest intentions to overcome my triggers, remain balanced, and move through my life experiences with grace, I still struggle to maintain that alignment.
I'm realizing what fills my cup one day may not the next. so for today I allow the big emotions to come, and with that all the negative thoughts and stories.. be with them and let them pass. Later I thought of them and asked if they were true? The answer for me was no, so that's progress. I'm pondering what I can let go of? If I let go of something else will it allow more space, more time for peace, like the moments at the lake? How can incorporate more of that into our daily lives?
Hitting the bath with a book shortly, I'll start over again tomorrow, bright and early with my beautifully selfish practice, and a fresh intention for a balanced day.. see if any new insight come then.
We definitely need to get away from the idea that self care is some sort of selfish act. It is so true that you can't pour from an empty cup. Great post!
