@dwells, I believe the New Testament was given by God as a combination of Old Testament prophesy, then current historical witnesses and not beforehand revealed revelation by the Holy Spirit. For the New Testament to have authority it doesn't require a direct link to the Old Testament. For the Prophets, and wisdom literature and the historical books of the Tenach don't necessarily need to quote the Pentatuach to validate their inspiration and authority. The same goes for the New Testament. God still spoke through His Prophets and Apostles in the New Testament just as He spoke through Moses and the other prophets in the Old. I'm not sure why you are asking this question in the first place. It seems that you don't accept the authority of the New Testament unless it lines up with the Old Testament as you understand it. Is that a fair assessment?
