Hi everybody,
This is my first post on Steemit, got turned onto it by the Dollar Vigilante (a cool guy. Check him out somewhere here on Steemit).
So I like to write about and discuss spiritual ideas. Since this is my first time here I don't even know if there is an opportunity for discussion, comments, and back-comments, etc. I hope so, so that we can have some dialogue. If we want one-way "spiritual" communication we go to a church right? And sit there while somebody in "spiritual" clothes tells us what we are doing wrong, and that if we just give lots of money to the church God in His infinite wisdom will reciprocate and smile on us, and we will be prosperous. I don't wanna do that, so I hope we can have some meaningful exchanges.
What I'm into is non-institutional spirituality. As in anarchist spirituality. Is there such an expression as that? Are the anarchists into spirituality?
Why? Because just like the internet is dis-inter-mediating many things, like crypto is disintermediating banks, and indy-press is disintermediating the MSM, the internet is also disintermediating churches.
Think about it. Not even a thousand years ago if you wanted to learn something about spirituality you had to go to a place of bricks and mortar - a church and learn whatever they taught you there. You had no independent way of finding out yourself. You either accepted what they said, or privately, denied it. Privately because of the tremendous social pressure to go with the flow. What to speak of conversion methods where your life was threatened.
"What's it gonna be? You believe or we take your head off!?"
"Um, I guess I'll keep my head. . . Your Holiness"
A thousand years before that, before there were religious institutions, you had to find an actual holy man and learn personally from him. There were no books, no audio, no video, just this one person teaching you what he learned from his guru.
But today there is the internet and people of all religious stripes are falling all over themselves to share their truths with you.
No building required.
And you can do key word searches to find out just the thing that you want to know instead of wasting weeks, months, and maybe even years before finding out that your teacher is not what you thought he was.
So today we don't need churches, or temples, or mosques. What we need is the internet and our curiosity, and maybe when we find the path that we want to follow, a guide who has gone before us, knows a bit more than we do, and can answer some questions that are sure to come up.
That's what I want to discuss here if it is possible.
Now I am off to explore Steemit and see if there are any conversations I can join.
More later.
I hope to have a good time here! :-)
Followed... Follow back
Thanks
Aha! there is discussion. Cool. Ok Gaura, followed you back to see what you're into
"You had no independent way of finding out yourself. "
Umm, Buddha did. Haha :√)
I believe going to church counts as religious experience. My personal views on this matter is that spirituality has nothing to do with religions.
Hey, Kissofearth, I count religions as institutions, and institutions have a way of falling away from their original purpose. I think spiritual-but-not-religious is the way to go.
