¡Hola amigos de Steemit!
Not the candle-lit dinners and roses kind I'm afraid (you'll have to wait for our Valentine's Day episode!) - but if you learn this vocab you'll be able to arrange your own!
Los meses (the months)
enero - January, febrero - February, marzo - March, abril - April, mayo - May, junio - June, julio - July, agosto - August, septiembre - September, octubre - October, noviembre - November, diciembre - December
Notice how the Spanish months aren't capitalised, unlike in English. To express "in a certain month", use the preposition "en": Vamos a Londres en noviembre. - We're going to London in November.
Las estaciones (the seasons)
la primavera - spring, el verano - summer, el otoño - autumn, el invierno - winter
Articles are normally used with the seasons: En América del Sur, la primavera empieza en septiembre. - In South America, spring begins in September.
Los días de la semana (the days of the week)
lunes - Monday, martes - Tuesday, miércoles - Wednesday, jueves - Thursdsay, viernes - Friday, sábado - Saturday, domingo - Sunday
Just like the months, the days of the week begin with lowercase letters.
La fecha (the date)
For the 1st day of the month, use the ordinal number (1st, 2nd, 3rd ...) "el primero", but for all the other days of the month use the cardinal numbers (1, 2, 3 ... - click here for an episode on these):
¿Qué día es hoy? - What day is it today?
Hoy es lunes, el primero de mayo. - Today is Monday the 1st of May.
Hoy es domingo, el veinticuatro de septiembre. - Today is Sunday the 24th of September.
Asking for the date
Here are a few ways to ask for the date:
¿Cuál es la fecha de hoy?
¿A cuántos estamos hoy?
¿Qué día es hoy?
¿A cuántos estamos?
Test yourself
Why not have a go at translating these to see how much you've learnt:
Wednesday the first of July
Sábado, el dieciocho de abril
Friday the twenty-seventh of December
That concludes today's blog! Now you'll be able to navigate the world of Spanish dates with ease! Thanks for supporting this series and I'll see you soon :)
