Hace algunos años compartí en redes esta sencilla nota sobre una canción de la banda sueca Abba, "I am the City". La pieza, de acuerdo con Wikipedia, fue grabada en 1982 permaneciendo inédita hasta 1993, cuando se dio a conocer en la compilación "More Abba Gold".

UNA RETRO-RESONANCIA
Me gusta “Soy la ciudad” porque:
- Habla de la ciudad como un organismo que te percibe y se comunica.
- Sigue la armonía de Abba de los 70 pero mezcla con el estilo más tecnológico de los 80.
- Es repetitiva, emula el ritmo-ruido citadino, encadenado e incesante. Es chillona, maquinal. Edición y ritmo apoyan la idea: “ciudad”.
Crecí CON los relatos de mi ciudad de los 50 y 60.
Crecí EN la ciudad de los 70 y 80. Y algo de eso encuentro en “I Am the City”
Según Abba, la ciudad es una criatura que vista desde el aire se despliega como una revelación.
Puede ser irresistiblemente hermosa. Te atrae y no sabes por qué. No para de crecer, no para de sonar. Su aire es eléctrico y vibrante.
Dice la canción: “Tú prestas atención y notas de alguna manera un ritmo constante (un latido)”.
La ciudad está llena de gente que arriesga: a veces gana, a veces pierde. ¿Te da la bienvenida con los brazos abiertos? (no sé, me lo pregunto).
Recoge millones de voces, de calles atiborradas, o quizás una sola voz: un clamor.
Pero la ciudad es también un alma hambrienta. Palpita con nuestros pasos y se nutre día y noche de nosotros: del ajetreo, la euforia y la locura. (¿Se ríe de nosotros la ciudad?)
Abba traza musicalmente un espacio grande que nos invita a llegar a ella y aportar a su fusión. A respetarle su “forma de ser”.
Ella es así. Es la ciudad.
