Durante una época este faro trajo mucha alegría a la población de Colonia del Sacramento por la necesidad de alumbrar la ciudad durante la noche y además servía de guia para algunas embarcaciones
Actualmente este viejo faro se encuentra en excelente estado e invita a los turistas a subir las escaleres hasta la cumbre, para mirar el rio de la plata y parte de la ciudad vieja.
