Hoy les quiero presentar uno de los parques más hermosos y concurridos de Venezuela. Y en esta oportunidad les hablo del "Parque Nacional Mochima", uno de los lugares que desde su sencillez y perfección natural, deslumbra a sus visitantes.
El Parque Nacional Mochima se encuentra ubicado en la costa Caribeña, al norte de Venezuela, especificamente entre los estados Sucre y Anzoátegui. Está constituido por un grupo de islas virgenes con gran variedad de especies marinas y de montañas con frondosa cobertura vegetal, que se extiende a lo largo de la costa marítima del país entre las ciudades Cumaná, Puerto la Cruz y Barcelona, y abarca una extensión de 94.935 Has. de superficies marinas y continentales. La temperatura de este lugar oscilan entre 24º C a 28º C, el clima por lo general es lluvioso cálido y sus extensiones acuáticas pertenecen al Mar Caribe.
Mochima fue decretado parque nacional el 19 de diciembre de 1973, con el fin de conservar la diversidad de ecosistemas, entre los cuales se destacan: manglares en la costa, arrecifes, montañas, playas, golfos, ensenadas, islotes y un área marina muy extensa. Dentro del parque también se encuentran pequeñas comunidades cuya actividad económica está basada principalmente en la pesca, el turismo y la artesanía. En este lugar existe una serie de normas que deben cumplir los habitantes y visitantes, las cuales giran entorno a respetar y preservar la virginidad de los espacios naturales.
Las montañas que se encuentran en este parque están formadas por rocas metamórficas, las cuales han alterado su forma original a lo largo de la historia, debido a las altas temperaturas de la zona, y constituyen un relieve irregular que junto a la vegetación, en ocasiones, asemejan figuras conocidas. Existe un contacto directo entre el mar y estas montañas, lo que ha propiciado la creación de valles y acantilados de gran tamaño. Cabe destacar que factores como el sol, el mar, las montañas, la vegetación, especies marinas, entre otros; han creado contrastes de colores indescriptibles que impresionan en gran medida a los visitantes.
La vegetación del parque está constituida básicamente por plantas de tipo herbazales, halófilos, psomófilos, xerófilos y especies marinas tales como: manglares costeros, avicennia, thalassia y ruppia marítima (importante refugio de peces, aves y alimento para las tortugas marinas). La fauna está representada por distintas especies como lo son los, felinos, ofidios, aves, mamíferos y sobre todo una gran diversidad de especies marinas como peses, ballenas, tiburones, delfines, erizos, cangrejos, tortugas de mar entre otros.
Mochima es uno de los destinos turísticos más espectaculares de Venezuela, es por ello que en el pueblo existen muchas posadas que prestan sus servicios a los visitantes durante todas las épocas del año. Además, la comunidad cuenta con pequeñas tiendas, restaurantes, bodegones, estacionamientos, entre otros. Desde el puerto es muy fácil conseguir embarcaciones para recorrer las playas de este parque, con la posibilidad de disfrutar de estas e incluso nadar con los delfines.
Particularmente considero que es un lugar que merece ser visitado y que merece la pena volver.
