The increase in meaningless spam comments here on the platform has become somewhat remarkable!

Gonna be downvoting spam votes in an effort to keep this place decent.

Already done it several times.

If you want someone to check out your stuff, upvote, or follow you, send a Steemit chat message, or at least make it relevant to the topic of the post on which you are posting your thinly-veiled spam comment.

I love this place because it isn't spam city!

I hope others with relatively significant influence on the platform of whatever level will do the same.

PEACE!

I agree with you @kafkanarchy84 especially the F4F gangs...its getting too much however most are very new members who do not know the rules. On the other hand, no decent person will copy a comment and post it on all posts hoping to get upvotes even though they do get some..thanks for pointing it out.

Yea, it's getting a bit ridiculous. I think the f4f people eventually realize that it doesn't work and move on . . at least that's my hope anyways. A well placed comment is probably the most effective way that I've seen for a new person to the platform to gain followers . . .

Let them all give each other (literally) worthless upvotes in perpetuity I say! If they're working that hard for $0.0001 and think it's worth it, who am I to tell them any different.

I like Spam! LOL It is great fried with eggs, and a little onion. I do see your point. Upvoted and following Now

I am doing spam it yesterday, as a result i have to lost my reputation. Now i will not do again and want to grow up by hard-work.

Good decision, do hard work and you will succeed in future.

Dang dude, I didn't even know the ranks went below (25) on here.

they go down to -25 (minus 25)

I agree. If we endorse these spam comments by upvoting them then they will just increase and swallow up valid comments that deserve visibility. If we don't upvote and flag them, soon the spammers will see that they are doing something wrong and not getting anything from it 😊

Excellent! Join the club!

Next, we'll have to add scammers to your list.

I've been on steemit for 1 week and I can tell you... I HATE SPAM! I also hate all the people kissing ass on whales post trying to get an upvote or just get noticed. I don't think is just the new jacks doing this. I see it on both sides. You will hope that by 2017 most people online already understand social etiquette. I guess they still don't.

16-things-you-should-do-on-social-media-to-stand-out.png

Yes that is so true! It's ridiculous

Count me in ^^

I already have done it several times, or at lesser offenses pointed out the error of their ways.

Still I'm barely more then a minnow. Using a half vote just for that... sigh

I thank you for your service.

that spam looks tasty lol

you're completely right and the spammers have no limits they comment all the posts with the same comment and that's ridiculous I hope that your post will do something to the community and thanks for evoking this problem

Sadly downvotes also take part of votepower. I do it only when i see that someone has plagiarized a post.

That's true. I am also glad for that, though. It necessitates the use of discretion on the downvoter's part as well.

It's an hard work, to keep a place spam-free, thank you for your efforts to try to make this possible. I will try to do my part... :)

Spam isn't particularly healthy. Good advice :D

Its getting out of control, the amount of new posts just asking for money or sad sob stories OR the amount of comments on posts that are just saying "hey nice post follow me bro" is like.... its like being on instagram again

myself and @mindhunter we on operation ---MUTE SPAMMERS!!!!!
mute remote.gif

Love this GIF, and love that idea, but doesn't "mute" only remove the spam post/comment from your view, and not that of others visiting your post?

Today I got a comment on one of my posts; a follow me request. So I checked out his page and looked at his replies - all identical, all follow requests. He himself follows 1! LOL
Question - can anyone down-vote? I haven't seen that option. Do you need to have a voting slider first? Or is down-voting another term for flagging?
Thanking you in advance . . .

Total spam. Yes, downvoting is another term for flagging. It does take voting power, however.

The amount of people that post a comment asking for follows or linking thier post is quite annoying and i downvote most i see

Some of the new people may be seeing the circle jerkers who upvote their own spammy posts and then upvote their resteemed spammy posts again while ignoring the "outsiders" who comment on their spammy posts.

Those bother me more than the poor schmucks who come here from Facechat and don't know any better.

The new people aren't sucking the rewards pool dry.

You are right, however if we are talking about comments sometimes people just want to appreciate someones work by writing "good post", "nice post" etc. It's just an opinion of this person and should not br considered as spam. Of course people are writing comments like this to make people go on their profile, but it's decentralized platform and I'm fine with that, just vote up better comments to make good content more visible. Before "sspaaameer" comments - no, I don't act like that and you can check it. This is just my way to act on meaningless comments.

I don't downvote "good post" and "nice post" type stuff. It is mostly meaningless, though, because I have often followed up and asked "What did you like about the post?" and inevitably receive no reply.

Okay, so you mean persons who don't even read article and comment just for advertising their profile. That's shame I thing and in fact it's more bad for them than good. They actually are making problems for community and themselves too...

But isn't that what upvoting is for, showing your apreciation for a post, without cluttering the comment section with value less stuff? Maybe we could use a kind of official "Steemit Rules Of Conduct Guide"? And then if they can make it into some very smart platform, violation of these rules of conduct have some authomatic consequences like limited payout,... ? Just an idea though

Nice post . Keep it up.

What was nice about it?

Or they are pulling your hair, or maybe they are not that intelligent... Reading a post about spam comments and then... Well comment with something meaningless adding no value at all... Kinda spam aint it?...

Good reminder. I think it's ok to add a link if it adds value to the article, topic or comment thread - but it must be very relevant and done sparingly. Link to other people's content if it adds value and not always your own. If it adds value most people will view it as such.

Asking others to follow you, vote swap etc is a big no-no and not a good look. It is definitely spam. Steemians are a smart group that generally knows the difference between contributing and spamming.

I wrote about this topic just last week. Here is my link, please read it, follow me, resteem and upvote and tell everyone else why they should follow me - just kidding :))))

I didn't write any such post but I'm glad that you did - thanks!

Lol. Had me going for a second there. haha. Right. I totally don't mind when someone links to something they wrote, or someone else wrote, if it adds value to the post. That is exactly the right way to say it, and I couldn't find those words prior to now. So thanks. You've added value to this post!

I'm glad that you saw the funny side. I thought twice about posting it. I was trying to show how desperate it comes across when people beg and spam. Thanks @kafkanarchy84 - I enjoy your posts. Cheers.

Hmmm, spam

You can down-vote?

You can "flag" which basically removes all rewards and hides the comments, the more power you have the more your flag is worth

I agree 100%, I have noticed a certain steemian who comments the same comment on all posts. I bet he/she doesn't read any of them

................................ *insert spam here

But what do you think of those who vote for their comments instead of voting for the article, I think they should be flagged as well.

I don't blame you, I think I've seen a few accounts just reposting content that didn't belong to the user at all. So if this kind of thing is growing maybe it's best to do some damage control. Because as history shows spam content can break the best of platforms. It's just sad that it never really goes away...

I know some users that only do spam.

While downvoting sounds like a great equalizer, in fact it will encourage a rage reaction in the person on the receiving end, and they will most likely retaliate by downvoting (flagging) those who downvoted them...see where this is going it's a vicious circle, the better thing would be to leave comments trying to be helpful. I don't support spam commenting and I don't do it.

To anyone reading this comment If you want to be a valued member here on Steemit DON"T SPAM it is not good for you or for Steemit, and it is antisocial behaviour.
It won't work well for you. Maybe in the short term you will win but you will more likely be hated and will never rise to the level you hope to attain.
To those who comment without spam, the community thanks you.

I at least want my spam Bacon flavored, just saying....
