Original Content Creators...Where Ya At?

in #spam7 years ago

Now, Steemit just seems to be filled with spamming bots/people and regular people copying and pasting content. it's becoming more and more of a problem for steemit and needs to be stopped.

Most of the comments I get on my posts are pretty much spam. I mean gawd...it's annoying! Whether it is a spam bot or some dude from Nigeria, I'm always getting spam. And it's always someone from another country or an annoying bot. We really need a new system to fight spam.

And to be honest, we have been getting more and more bots and spam on steemit now more than ever. I understand steemit is still in beta, but we really need to figure out a way to weed out all of these bots and spammers. Because the majority of new users are spammers or bots. Which can be an extreme turn off for many people, me included.

What sucks is when you spend an hour writing an article, and all you get is someone asking you to follow and upvote them or somebody commenting a copy and pasted line onto your comment section without consideration. You work hard, and all you get is spam for the most part, which is extremely annoying.

We have way too many new people spamming and creating spammy bots... 😠 😠 😠

Now as if we don't have enough new people already that are spamming peoples posts asking for upvotes and follows, we now have bots that do exactly the same except in a larger scale. That's just great, mate.

On steemit, we have recently reached over 300,000 users (which is not a good thing), and most of them are bots. Some bots are good and don't spam like the @cheetah bot or bots like that. And the majority of these bots constantly spam peoples posts asking for upvotes and follows etc.

The amount of spam on here is unbelievable... and is really annoying.

And I think if we want steemit to excel as a platform, we need to get rid of these bots...Not only are the bots taking away from the rewards pool, but they are annoying people with their spammy comments. We need more legit users on this platform, meaning less of the spammy bots and people who are posting genuine content.

As of now, steemit is flooded. Steemit is at that point to which if you follow even 50 people you like, you can't even catch up with their posts unless you specifically go to their post. There is a rapid amount of spam posting on steemit and a rapid amount of people joining at the same time. Which in my eyes, is not good at all.

What needs to be done...

Steemit is a diamond in the rough, and right now it's in a beta currently, and it is not completely refined. But until then, I think we need to charge for people to join steemit or join by invite only. This will weed out a lot of those spammers joining in massive amounts. This is a good solution until steemit is in it's final phase and is spammer and scammer resistant.
(hopefully)... Let's hope steemit makes a leap for improvement soon...

It really is discouraging. I just started last month and am slowly getting a few followers. I take my time to write my posts about couponing and saving money but it seems like everyone else who is scamming people get all the upvotes and $$. Hopefully people open their eyes and start appreciating the ones that put some time and effort into their posts instead of the ones that are just begging for $$

I followed you even though I don't really use coupons all that often but I appreciate the original content also, have an upvote.

Thank you so much! I just checked out some of your posts and am looking forward to seeing some more of your work.

I agree this is a big problem and a huge turn off. It's getting harder to find original content on the "new" page.

@M@1neEvent had a great idea to start using a new tag #original-content

https://steemit.com/original-content/@ma1neevent/original-content-start-using-this-tag-for-steemit-original-content

This will at least make it easier to spot the good content and raise it up. As for the spam, I think something needs to be done with the next HF. The way flagging is set up now doesn't really give you much incentive to downvote someone. It drains your voting power and gives you potential enemies who may or may not try to downvote you back (depending on your SP).

Don't be annoyed! I'm not from Nigeria or a dude, and I send you kind regards from Serbia! :)

Yup, thats my old post. I used a paragraph from it, oh help me god

Too bad there are lazy people out there that just don't put an effort. I am new at creating content but at least its my own content lol. I feel you on your post i get bot comments and its annoying. Anyway if you have time to see some of my content and give me advice, right now i'm just writing about my fitness goals. I'll follow ya

the cheetah needs to go, lol, what a joke.
I do feel you on the b.s. content, hopefully people like us will prevail.
I just ignore the bots as if they never even posted. If more of us do this, then they cannot win ;)

I got one of those @cheetah comments when did a post that I showed people the comments I use to reply to spam. I have some standard ones that I cut and paste to spammy comments. but at the time, I did not realize they were bots who would never answer.

I'm a content creator and this is one of the hardest places I have aver posted. I've tried many platforms in 6 years and this one takes the cake. I hope it succeeds but it's iffy right now, sadly.

The Alexa ranking is so good! It calls to me but I can't get it unless my posts make $10 which they don't. I'm still swimming but a little bit tired.

It seems that Steemit has become a haven for beggars, spammers and ripoff artists... Most of the ones I get are from India. I got one yesterday that only said "Please upvote me" not even the customary "nice post." This guy got straight to the point at least.

When I began here in Nov. it seemed like a platform for artists, writers, photographers, etc.. Then I guess it got "advertised" as a social media platform... like facebook with money. It's getting really disgusting. We just caught a guy that's been cut and pasting people's posts and submitting them under his name (he even did it to a homeless woman with two sick children asking for help!!!) Thankfully, he's been flagged into oblivion, and her situation has been rectified.

yeah spammers come from everywhere.. which sucks. I just listed one country

And just what did you expect. There are still a lot of places in the world where a few dollars or even cents earned in a day will feed a family. Can you really blame them?

Yup! I can, that's not what this platform was created for! They're taking away from people that work hard to create something... just like in real life, these parasites don't work, they beg. And before you start moralizing to me- I have nothing. Nothing but the will to create content and let the community decide on it's merits. I've never asked for anything!

@richq11 Exactly, if most of those people are spamming or finding out ways to scam, they are probably working out scams over the phone...Scams are becoming more and more of a problem in the world. So is spam, especially on steemit. So, hell yes, I can blame them, because they are ruining what once was great and making it "eh I dont know".

Oh and by the way. Re-posting the same article 2 days after the first time is SPAM. Just because you gave it a different title does not make it different.

@thebul It's not spam if I changed it, btw. And Im doing it for a good reason.

i don't get many bots replying to me... feel a bit left out...i guess even the bots hate me... doom...

its my own content, big deal

I know brother. It was funny that cheetah didn't read your link. It never does lol

cheetah is needed, but its also stupid

resteem it....

not right at all for you to single out a country for spam on steemit, thats very rude. there are spammers from every country of the world here on steemit. spamming is part of any online network, even @ned has spam comments dropped on his post. you ignore or flag a post you see as spam, most new users dont know any better and they learn as they mature on the platform.i am nigerian and am not a spammer yet i have spam comments on my post that werent from nigerians. so its very very wrong of you to paint a picture that depicts that if you get a spam comment on a post it must be from a nigerian.

Oh im sorry... Did i offend you? Spammers are typically from that region, get over it. They are coming not only from nigeria, but from vietnam, india, thailand, america, and so on. I just listed and example, and if that pisses you off then dont even bother to comment on my post, just leave. I am stating things how they are. Spammers are everywhere and I would prefer to not be politically correct and put things how they are than to sugar coat everything.

I'm a Nigerian and i'm sad that Nigerians are gaining bad reputation here for spamming, i hope to change a lot of things as i have begin already.

If you use your country tag and post your ideas - maybe your countrymen will read you and learn. They are just trying to figure this out and see a lot of spam so maybe they think it is ok.

its not most nigerians fault, it just the spammers. I just listen the type of people i see spamming, its not just nigerians btw.. I am glad you see that and are not getting mad like some people are here...

I guess we will overcome this problem soon. I have read somewhere that now it takes 3 - 5 days to approve an account and the reason is to stop the bots entering into this wonderful community!

I don't think the main problem is the spam. It's the fact that the rubbish kills the visibility of good posts. Some curating groups spend countless hours trying to find those rare gems between the piles of horrible garbage. I applaud them.

But to advance the platform towards a more rewarding experience, I think we should have some more refining details in the feed settings.

If I could have different feeds, based upon reputation, country of origin, amount of SP, time on platform, or even just customized feeds of certain lists based on other criteria that would help a lot.

Also, the concept that after 7 days all interaction with a blog becomes unrewarded, causes content to gravitate towards fleeting temporary stuff.

In short, as a platform we get what we reward. Let's try to stop rewarding spam.

Agreed! This is not fair at all. I post only my own photos and im trying to write something interesting. And some guys just using photos from Google. But what is unacceptable , they ask me to upvote and resteem, cos they did it with my ORIGINAL post!! Somebody should stop them, cos Steemit loses its original purpose!! Thanks for this post!! Its a very current topic now.

It's very discouraging to see the spam bots. How does a writer shine through these muddy waters? I followed :)

It is good we see that playform has some minor problems which you notice that can be improved.

I wrote one post on this topic in past - it would be great if i could mark favourite people to follow, so i can follow them more efficiently. I see you have this problems too.

Othervise steemit rocks.

Right thinking and writing....Give me Restem, You can help me.

Here I am. #original-content

Really . It took you that many words to say stop plagiarism. Sounds like a bunch of whining to me. Did spam give you the ok to use their can or did you find it on google images.

If i were you, I wouldn't talk if you don't know what you're talking about. The article was reposted from my old article, so its 100% my content. Next time think before commenting, please.

Couldn't agree more! I'm shocked that steemit doesn't charge. I sometimes question whether it's worth continuing to write original posts and continue on here when people make 10x more money just posting a YouTube video they don't even have a part in

That GIF was totally accurate. However, I think it's fighting fire with fire. We can manually try to find it - which most of the cases work. But I think the most accurate way is to fight the spammers with.. well bots.

I get you man. I get these really shitty comments on my posts that makes no sense. It has nothing to do with the content, some random crap just posted all over the show. It's everywhere!

I somewhat agree. I originally started posting a travel blog purely for friends and family, but I had an interest in crypto, so naturally this platform seemed right. After being active for a couple of months, it seems the click bate here is king and people are actually up voting it. It's like no one has seen it before or something! As for the bots and spam, I've had some but can hardly get anyone to look at the posts, let alone up vote!😂

The upvotes are likely bots. :)

I wonder if invite only or paid to join would work or not. On paper it seems like a great idea, IRL it might just put people off from joining... charging a fee might make it seem scammy. I do agree something needs to be done though, there's so much crap on the new pages it's impossible to find anything to read.

Charging for entry will kill the platform. Plain and simple.

Limiting bot use on the other hand and/or charging for bot creation is a different story.

The best thing most of us content creators can do is reward obviously solid content and ignore the rest as well as spread this message like wildfire.

The trending section is a disaster zone today; filled with vitriol and toxic waste, yet I've been posting and resteeming great stuff all week.

Weekend drama? :)

Fuck are you really fucking doing this?? Have you read the fucking post???

@jorgegp some didnt learn i guess
