Day 35

Today was such a fantastic day. I woke up at 0430 when El left. I got up a bit later and packed, then I made the most of some fast internet. We left at about 0815, we dropped Cal off at a Game Lodge where he’s spending his week off and then carried on to Hoedspruit to pick up some bits for lunch. Our first stop was Echo Caves, they are so beautiful, it was really interesting. I love caves, I could quite happily wander and wander and see what I find! There are so many beautiful formations, stalactites and stalagmites, columns, and different shapes that look like animals – we were shown the ostrich and the elephant – you needed a bit of imagination though!

We came out of there, saw a couple of emu and then drove to ‘The Big Shoe’. It was a bit of a let down really, we didn’t go in, we just took pictures from the outside.

Our next stop was the ‘Three Rondavels’. This was up to expectation. Such absolutely magnificent views, it really made geology interesting!

We also saw a few really cool grasshopper.

Next we headed to ‘Bourke’s Luck Potholes’, before we went in we had some lunch, cheese and ham sandwiches and crisps. I went with Tanza to get a milkshake (bubblegum flavour) and while we were gone some baboons stole our bread, right from under the others’ noses!

We went and had a look at the potholes, it was simply stunning. I loved listening to the power of the water. We paddled for a bit and clambered up and over rocks to take better pictures. Katie and I were in our element.

We then began driving to Graskop where we had booked a chalet. We stopped on the way at Berlin Falls, we hoped to be able to swim, but it was just a waterfall for looking at. It was very beautiful though and you could see a bit of a rainbow at the bottom which was even better.

We then drove to ‘Blue Swallow Chalets’, what a lovely place, with a pool, WiFi, guinea fowl, lots of rabbits and even some really small, really cute baby bunnies!

We put our bags inside and then jumped straight into the pool. After cooling off we headed out for dinner. The first place we tried was full so we went to Canimamba. They didn’t have quite a lot of what we wanted but we all got something to eat and it was pretty yummy. I had a burger and chips with fanta, followed by my first try of amarula liquor (it’s very nice) and a cocktail called ‘Jelly Bean’ – this was super yummy!

We then walked home and after a bit of chatting, went to bed.
