Soul Calibur VI - first look

in #soul3 years ago

Older fans of fighting games will immediately recognize the plot of the first Calibur, released in 1999. SoulCalibur VI returns to that cult story and those heroes, rewriting the epic adventure. In a way, the sixth part of the series is a remake of the first installment. Not only in terms of narration, but also the combat mechanics. It is surprising that the publisher decided to leave the six in the title.

Soul Edge - the first installment of the series without the demonic Nightmare yet - had some great ideas. Unfortunately, they were later withdrawn. One of the most interesting mechanics was the rock-paper-scissors fight when two weapons wielded by warriors collide. Now the specific minigame returns as Reversal Edge.

Thanks to Reversal Edge, duels are longer and more cinematic. One-button attack type slows time and forces each fighter to make a quick decision. Fast attack, strong attack or kick? Maybe an unexpected step to the side? After a second or two, the warriors automatically attack each other and players observe the effects of their decisions. A very pleasant tactical element that cools players who are mindlessly swinging the blade left and right.

Being at the iconic Soul Edge; it is a pity that the producers did not decide to destroy the weapons. In the 1997 game, each sword, ax, and cleaver had its own durability bar. When we blocked the enemy's attacks too often, the weapon was destroyed. The warrior was left with an ineffective fight with fists and kicks. In SoulCalibur VI you can also break your opponent's guard, but the weapons are indestructible ...

Armors are torn, shirts are torn, and skirts are falling off their hips. You can basically disarm your rival to underwear. With the help of powerful, supercharged and well-launched attacks, we destroy other elements of the enemy's clothing, which is mainly cosmetic. When our rival starts the fight with full plate armor, he asks to be left in his briefs. Playing undress is an optional element that embarrasses rivals and shows them their place in the row.

Of course, Japanese producers were especially diligent in destroying the clothes of female warriors. They don't even leave poor Sophitia shoes. The bold costume of the alluring Ivy protects only a scrap of fabric from showing everything. The one-piece costume of the brave Taki must have torn on the chest. SoulCalibur VI is largely a fanservice for the casual gamer who focuses on the visual experience.
