After-all, what is the point of trying to convince people of things they have already made their mind up on?

Actually, I ask myself this same question almost every time I want to engage in a debate with someone (both online and offline). I have come to realize that it takes a considerable amount of intellectual prowess for someone to welcome an idea without agreeing to it.
