We don't have ads but we do have the same issue with buying votes! It's already been happening with whales selling upvotes in auctions! I think it's almost impossible to stop these things...

But at least its transparent here on Steemit. You can easily go to anyone's wallet and check if they are buying upvotes or not.

That's true although not necessarily as people can make anonymous accounts for upvote purposes but either way, it won't change the fact that ultimately everyone is going to have to pay to get their post up trending. The rich will be able to speak up as usual...
