Facebook finally has a serial project with which to draw attention.
According to eMarketer's latest forecast on the use of social networks, Facebook is losing younger users at an even faster rate than expected. The research firm says that less than half of US Internet users. UU between 12 and 17 years old they will use Facebook this year for the first time . This is a total of 700 thousand fewer users than in the year 2017. The study explains that this profile of young users is transferred to social networks such as Snapchat and Instagram .

The eMarketer forecast bases its analysis on surveys, traffic data, Facebook press releases , historical trends, as well as other Internet and mobile trends. The research explains that Instagram will increase its users by 1.6 million while Snapchat will grow thanks to the 1.9 million profiles that will be created this 2018.

So, the biggest growth will be among the older users , and it is expected that 500 thousand new profiles of people over 55 will join Facebook this year. In 2018 there will be 6.4 million regular users of Facebook between 55 and 65 years of age while users between 16 and 34 will show a demographic decline.

Although this is so Facebook is still the most popular social network in the world , counting with more than 2 billion users but for years the growth of the platform in the United States has been driven by older users . In fact, this is the second time in less than six months that eMarketer warns about the weakened appeal of Facebook for teenagers, a problem that the Facebook company, on this occasion, did not want to comment on.
Despite not making a statement, the platform has made certain changes to improve its appeal : last month, Facebook announced a major revision of its news feed algorithm to prioritize what friends and family share , while at the same time reducing the amount of non-advertising content of publishers and brands. Mark Zuckerberg explained that "2017 has been a difficult year", especially because of its positioning in the face of false news .

The ephemeral nature of Snapchat is a great attraction for teenagers, this is why Facebook was made with Instagram for a price of one billion dollars in 2012, to give the younger audience a social network that was more of their interest , Snapchat style. The latter rejected Facebook's offer and continues to keep pace with the fashion platform.
