I have seen all the fire and smoke briefly that the last MB team post has made. Regarding the 1.5% referral bonus for existing and new users, plus the 0.5% for those who are already users and sell a vote in these days.
Also, the lovely marketing hook that the alleged 2.7x return for every SBD in MB. All, to be honest, sounds great in the paper, now I wonder what the reality is.
To make a quick test, I have transferred 10 SBD to MB to try the hype and see how is working practically.
Well, apparently is not as smooth as it was mentioned in their last post. As you can see above, I have tried with three different amounts, and immediately the system rejects it due to a lack of vote sellers for those sums. I know, this can happen, and sometimes occurs at SmartSteem, the difference is that MB tries to allocate one vote per bid, when SmartSteem will use different vote amounts for our payment, resulting in more than one vote most of the time, at the same price.
I am a guy who likes objective data and not only talking about "my team" or the other one, @therealwolf knows that I will tell him if we are not doing it right.
So, I did the same trial for one of my posts; here below the results.
I got 0.282 back, so I paid SBD 0.718 and got this;
14 Votes for a total value of STU 1.615, which is 2.2493x what I paid.
Same as above let's try the allocation of votes for the equal amount which I used for MB.
Sent 0.5 SBD got back 0.282, so I paid 0.229.
I got 22 Votes for a total value of 0.515 which represents a return of 2.2489x.
Let's go for the last round, 0.1 SBD which represents the alleged strength of MB, the minnows sector, as you all know minnows spend around 0.1-0.05 SBD in average per post, and usually not more. That is the niche that MB is trying to tackle the most, while SmartSteem focuses on dolphins, Orcas and Whales (mainly as sellers not as users).
The amount of votes is so high that I can not put it in normal format, so you can just believe me or make zoom. According to my SmartSteem profile, I have received 55 upvotes for a total value of; STU 0.225, or 2.25x.
This proves that my hypothesis was correct, minnows represents the more significant portion of vote sellers also in SmartSteem.
For what we have seen so far, this looks like a K.O. for MB. I still consider they have some good things, like the support to the minnow community and their large team holding the whole project. In this case and just looking at my numbers, looks like there is no other result but a clear win for SmartSteem. They may not have a higher ROI of 2.75x, no 1.5% referral percentage, no 0.5% bonus for early users, but hey, what good is all that if the tool is not working as expected.
Most significant is the philosophy behind each project. Since I do not know anyone personally from the MB team, I will not dare to talk about what is unknown to me. For SmartSteem I can say that we look for quality content, that we support Curated Authors, which are pushed to get Whitelisted to receive higher upvotes, we work with other cleaning teams to ensure that spammers and plagiarists or abusers stay away from our tool. In the end, I think that is more important than the numbers.
I encourage all users to keep supporting both tools, I believe we will take separate paths, our strengths and weaknesses are different. New Steemers will find their preferred one, as others will like to taste both. Competition is healthy, and as long the platform keeps attracting a variety of new people we are on the path.
Some visual humor, we are all friends :D

Love that last picture of me :P
Really appreciate that insight - and all in all I'd say that MB and smartsteem both have their pros and cons :)
Haha I know, red hair suits you great. It is just a silly pic ;-)
And I agree, both can coexist and give added value to the platform. But is also important to educate users to not fall for a catchy marketing piece without further investigation.
hey....I am not being able to sell votes on smartsteem....is it because my sp available is low?
Is it working now?
it seems yes
I have just starting experimenting with bots and read about minnowbooster and really liked their idea. Used twice and had no issue. Third time I used it I for no reason got blacklisted. Got on their discord and one of the mods told me that they had problem with a new update that put people on blacklist that had done nothing wrong. They say that they are working on it and that I should be unbanned in a week.
Have been using smartsteem meanwhile and it works flawless 😊
Thanks for your comment and I am also happy is working fine for you!
To bot or not to bot?
Could you explain to me or share a link that explains, simple, the benefits of using bot upvotes or to allow upvotes to happen organically? Can someone succeed on Steemit organically? Or because people use bots, that is impossible now?
As a new steemarian - I am in the "Dust" catagory. Is it possible to increase a person's steem power and to evolve into a whale just on posts and quality content?
Here is my original post inquiring about this topic:

They are not the newest on the matter but are still accurate.
Thanks. I will check them out.
Will your vote selling service increase an account's Steem Power and reputation over time? I just recently gave your bot permission on my account and wonder how it will go, but I will wait and see, either way.
Hey @santana33 , this is great article , that will help this community. I will like to add a quote here that would be helpful to bloggers on this platform.
Why You Should Upvote Comments!!!!
I've noticed alot of people doesnt reward their followers, and their commenters on here.
It's a shame.
When someone takes the time to not only read your post but to leave a comment. Even throwing your small vote their way does a lot of great things...
They are More Likely To Follow You;
I'm not saying you should upvote every single comment you get. I try and look for those that I feel provide value to the post. When they see that you upvoted their comment and they will be rewarded as a result. This encourages them to follow you; Then you'll have a regular on your post.
You can grow your followers so that they can grow you.
If they choose to keep their Steem in their account, They may power it up. If you continuously are upvoting their great comments, then they will steadily grow overtime. Their vote will be worth even more, and they'll be able to upvote you, The upvotes you gave them helps them grow, so they have more power on the platform.
I would upvote your comment but unf. I see that you post the same in every single post, so you are not helping yourself.
Tricky poster. There seems to be so much to track and follow on Steemit. This can be confusing or overwhelming for new steemarians.
Any succinct tips on how to succeed here?
I have been using smarsteem for some of my posts... The last one being today where I sent 15 SBD for my content : https://steemit.com/science/@mers/cryptogams-what-are-they-and-how-important-are-they-to-our-planet
I have used the calculation you gave about buying votes and I should have a 25% curation with 33.75SBD in return...At the moment @smartsteem curated my content at 157% with a return of 23.78 SBD ... My content with the above link is a a good content about science.
Since whales hardly see my contents, I decided to use Upvote Bots to get exposure although I know I cannot profit from this transaction except that my SP gets higher in value... So my question is, will my above content still be upvoted by your investors or is that about it with the upvote valueof 23.78SBD instead of 33.75 SBD ???
@mers
Hey @mers,
the calculation is for @smartmarket - transfers to @smartsteem result in a bid for the bid-bot
So do I need to make my transfers to @smartmarket to buy the votes everytime? OK... I´ll do that in the future...
Btw, I sent you a memo yesterday about that 93 SP delegated to @steemitpowerupph which was replaced by the erroneous delegation of 7SP I did to increase my delegation to that Group. Only the 7 SP was recorded as my delegation... will I be getting the 86 difference in 7 days sent to my account @mers?
That was what the guys at DACH on Discord told me. Stimmt das? LG, @mers
I have applied for review few days ago. But still it is pending. I hope their review system will improve. Smartsteem is the best service for both vote buyers and sellers.
Please can you help me? I am waiting since 4/5 days!
Hi there, unfort. we have some users waiting for over a month, we are putting more people dedicated to support us on that, so you should not wait as much as those just mentioned.
I got hacked, but I got the account back. Sorry..
Next time try to read the post first, got your comment like 10 seconds after posting... not gonna get too far spamming like that.
