Not Suprising DLive is OVER!

Like my title of this post, yes, it wasn't surprising. Developers are all well capable of doing this. Integrity levels on the other hand will defer from one individual to another. Doing over 200 streams and almost 200 days on DLive, here are some of my thoughts post-DLive. Promise this is not another rant write-up.

From months ago, every update that DLive did was taking it further away from thinking and doing their work for the community and more and more towards their personal benefit. It comes of no surprise to me after all these indications, from lowering the amount of upvotes of users but still maintaining their team members to smokescreens created by their various rounds of "community feedback" forms, this has been in the plans I feel for some time now.

It was probably a delaying of time just to milk the rewards pool thoroughly as put by @meno on his comments to the exodus of DLive.

As a user that has been part of the community and gotten so many other users on to the platform particularly people from #teammalaysia, this is real disappointing.

Sooner rather than later

However, I'm actually more happy than disappointed because of the fact that DLive is now over and that they will no longer be on the STEEM blockchain. It just saves me from investing my time and involvement in a project that was mediocre at the tail end of things.

It's good that it ends now before HardFork20 but more importantly before SMT (Smart Media Tokens) gets started. It would have been worse if this happened after SMT. So, good that it has happened now just days before HF20.

I would however like to thank some of the curating team members who have been really friendly and helped in curating my streams. It's been a journey. Thanks and goodbye to you guys.

We've also gotta give lotsa props to STEEM Inc. for always putting themselves in a position to empower dApps, too bad that this time it didn't quite work out but I'm sure the future on STEEM itself is gonna be unprecedentedly explosive!

Filling the void left by DLive - VimmTV?

I've just started a new channel and streamed by first live stream on vimm.tv(@vimm). Their upvotes might not be much now but judging just from their interface, it looks way sleeker and cleaner than DLive. I must say that it's user friendly in terms of how to go about the different spaces on the website and it's easy on the eye to spot things as well.

@therealwolf from @smartsteem just chipped in a 5,000 SP delegation a couple hours ago towards VimmTV which is really encouraging because a witness of that caliber and someone who is so involved and influential in the STEEM community gives a good sign as a backer. I see it as a vote of confidence and I'm sure a lot of ex-DLivers such as myself will be jumping on board with him to support VimmTV as well.

You can read his post on this here - https://steemit.com/steem/@therealwolf/dlive-is-leaving-but-another-project-is-on-the-horizon-vimm-tv

I believe with the right backers and a team with integrity, any dApp can make it.

Final Thoughts

This has been a good lesson for all especially those of us that aren't normally jump on the bandwagon of projects just because they use the word "blockchain" or "rewards".

Just a couple months back I joined this platform called LIT which rewards you a cryptocurrency called Mithril and ERC20 token on the Ethereum network. They too, similar to what DLive has pulled off are inherently centralized and externally decentralized.

They are rewarding you in decentralized form of currency and transactions can be reviewed just like any other legitimate dApp however your data and content are stored with them centrally. So whenever that's the case and the coding isn't decentralized, you're no longer on a trustless system, you're gonna have to trust the person or the team that leads the project.

In this case, I'm hoping that everyone in the STEEM blockchain space will be more aware of these differences that aren't seen at one glance. DLive users, let's not cry over spilt milk but this was always a possibility with such a team that had such a centralised vision and intention.

Time to move on and move forward!

Sayonara & adios Dlive XD

omg, just sign up Dlive couple days ago to learn how it work and now it had end ;(

Anyways,what a great article to share ✌

I'm not surprised that you're angry, having put so much work on Dlive - 200 livestreams is a lot. I was in shock when I woke up this morning and read Dlive's announcement.
But then I started to see positives. "Every problem contains the seed of its own solution" as they say. I do videos, not live-streaming, and there are many other video platforms, not just YouTube and Dtube (which I unfortunately can't get to work). There are also many alternative ways of posting, which I'm now going to try out.
It will all work out for the best!

Not really angry actually. I'm actually happy that things are over with DLive and I'm grateful for while it lasted. Like you said, it'll all work out for the best :D

Wow 200 is a lot
i gotta check out vimm.tv
Thank you @danielwong 😊

Yep no problem. Have a good weekend ahead!

I am looking for an alternative to Twitch and started on DLive recently but found some of its capabilities limited and some of its quirks annoying. I feel as though most blockchain streaming services will be this way for a while which is a shame since it gives almost no incentive for someone to switch to it. I'll check out vimm and see if there's some potential there.
