Let us talk about this in the context of smartcash. A smartcash masternode is called a smartnode.
Since it would be difficult to run our computer 24X7 all year long without a reboot or a IP change therefore it would be cheaper to run a smartnode using a VPS.
To run a smartcash smartnode you need 10,000 smartcash in your wallet.
The VPS required to run a smartcash smartnode is as follows
VPS: IPv4 address, 1GB RAM, 20GB drive
It should be able to run 24X7 without more then an hour of connection loss. As per the latest update this downtime window has been increased to 2 hours.
The main idea to run a smartnode is to enable the instapay feature which would enable instant transaction and help smartcash be considered as a viable solution for instant payments.
Later on more services would be added to the list of services
Please note that to run the swmartnode you need to have 10,000 smart in your wallet. However at no point you need to give the private key to the hosting company or anyone else.
If someone asks for your private key then it is wrong .
Do not confuse between the private key and the Smartnode GenKey. These are two different things.
There are a number of masternode hosting providers and depending upon your needs and liking you can pick one.

Make sure that your masternode hosting company gives you a IPV4 address and not an IPV6 address.
