I made this painted sculpture out of two old skateboard decks for the S.F. Skate Club Fundraiser happening this weekend at Luggage Store Gallery in San Francisco. The S.F. Skate Club is an important after school option for kids who like to skate; Their programming offers a wide array of services to its youth including hands-on creative projects, counseling, tutoring, a place to hang out, snacks, mentorship, field trips, and friendship! It's wildly inclusive attitude is what drew me to support them.

That being said, the board I made honors the people in skateboarding that make it so accessible. Growing up a girl in such a male dominated arena in the late 80's / early 90's was awkward to navigate. I didn't have a place like SF Skate Club to go after school. I was a loner girl with artist parents who moved a lot...skateboarding became my refuge.

Through broken bones, concussions, being a board member of the Vancouver Skateboard Coalition, hosting skateboard classes for at-risk youth, running a small skateboard company, and shooting countless photographs- I'm happy to call skateboarding an inspired and influential part of my life. It kept me pushing myself. It introduced me to a community I feel blessed to call an international family.

So from the Groms, to the super shredders, to the boys that support girls at the skatepark or in the street, to the mothers and sisters and fathers and brothers that support their skateboarding kids...and most importantly to SF SKATECLUB for providing a safe and comfortable space for equal access to skateboarding, its culture, and it's BAY AREA COMMUNITY. Here is the Bud Snow board for the San Francisco Skate Club Fundraiser at Luggage Store Gallery, this coming April 29th from 3-6pm! So many epic contemporary artists are in this show!!! And in the name of Skateboarding, happy BIDDING!

Much Love!
Bud Snow
