We are preconditioned to think of intelligence as residing in an independent unit, but I think AI has already risen to ascendancy here on Earth:

No, not as androids, but as distributed global network of countless computers... with some parts even in direct competition with each other, thus performing a regulating function. Us bio organisms are all integrated into that... yes the Earth may well have a mind of her own and that is definitely evolving faster and faster because evolution never sleeps. 😉
