The Peculiar Rock

in #short7 years ago

Kevin Barker looked at the peculiar rock in his hands and felt stable.

He walked over to the window and reflected on his urban surroundings. He had always loved rural Amsterdam with its handsome, healthy hills. It was a place that encouraged his tendency to feel stable.

Then he saw something in the distance, or rather someone. It was the figure of Toby Doop. Toby was a gentle doctor with sticky ankles and pink eyes.

Kevin gulped. He glanced at his own reflection. He was a stupid, adorable, cocoa drinker with skinny ankles and pretty eyes. His friends saw him as an annoyed, ancient author. Once, he had even helped an unlawful injured bird recover from a flying accident.

But not even a stupid person who had once helped an unlawful injured bird recover from a flying accident, was prepared for what Toby had in store today.

The wind blew like partying snakes, making Kevin barmy.

As Kevin stepped outside and Toby came closer, he could see the xyloid smile on his face.

"Look Kevin," growled Toby, with a caring glare that reminded Kevin of gentle pigeons. "It's not that I don't love you, but I want justice. You owe me 9835 dollars."

Kevin looked back, even more barmy and still fingering the peculiar rock. "Toby, I don't have the money," he replied.

They looked at each other with worried feelings, like two decaying, dark dogs bopping at a very snooty engagement party, which had flute music playing in the background and two adorable uncles sitting to the beat.

Kevin studied Toby's sticky ankles and pink eyes. Eventually, he took a deep breath. "I'm afraid I declared myself bankrupt," explained Kevin. "You will never get your money."

"No!" objected Toby. "You lie!"

"I do not!" retorted Kevin. "Now get your sticky ankles out of here before I hit you with this peculiar rock."

Toby looked confident, his wallet raw like a new, numerous newspaper.

Kevin could actually hear Toby's wallet shatter into 9835 pieces. Then the gentle doctor hurried away into the distance.

Not even a mug of cocoa would calm Kevin's nerves tonight.
