While we are upgrading the subreddit and adding some more usecases to it than just another way to do #postpromotion on it. I wanted to encourage users to start posting more links on Reddit in the relevant subreddits in general.
Lately I've been seeing a lot more posts linked in subreddits such as r/cryptocurrency and r/btc and that's a good sign. Every time one of those links gets a lot of upvotes and attention it brings awareness to the website and our currency. There was a time where there were some conspiracy theoris that some subreddits have shadow-banned links to Steemit all together, can't say I'm sure that r/bitcoin has not. :P
With more users here posting and sharing their Steemit links on other subreddits it is growing the SEO a lot and at the same time activity on the platform. As a way to encourage users to do this more, and not just on our subreddit r/steemit, I will shortly start to curate through these submissions and I hope other curators will start doing the same. If there are posts gathering a lot of views they should also be getting some more rewards depending on the content and knowing that these views have not been faked. A good way to find out how these posts are generating a lot of views which many here may not be aware of is this simple link:

Reddit has the option to filter posts by domain name, which makes it really easy for us to check for posts that have received a lot of views. As you can see from a quick glance, many of the popular subreddits with Steemit links on are r/cryptocurrency and r/conspiracy as the userbase on our censorship-resistant platform likes to post a lot about conspiracy theories and other information on other cryptocurrencies while making some rewards at the same time.
So while we currently only offer direct sharing to a few platforms such as these:

No, don't do this! We need active discussion about Steemit's platform and meta information to attract users, not circle jerk. Barring that, post promotion /might/ be okay but only if (4) holds. But at that point I don't think people will comment in both places...
But, acidyo's suggestion about posting in other subreddits with more eyeballs will have more impact for link references anyway.
The trend is looking good. Hope it continues. Also, I think users can also mention about Steemit to their favorite bloggers and youtubers. Getting more of them to join this platform would be great.

Steemit is still an infant as the internet was in 1994. There will be new Altavistas und Hotbots that draw people in. And they will disappear and by succeeded by things we still don't know. And then: there will be a time when people don't remember the time before Steemit.

Thank you @acidyo because in my latest post here @ackza i discuss this exact need to start posting steemit abd steem related lunks to reddit snd get thousand of steem users to all upvote it on REDDIT where the the upvotes wont get you paid but they are the only way to get your reddit post to the top ... so if we want to see a steemit post at the very top of steemit or even r/bitcoin we MUST work together to all upvote our steemit related reddit posts with tens of thousands of steemit users all upvoting the same reddit posts to the front page... and when we acomplish this brigadding we will OWN the reddit trending page since we will then have the estimated 20,000 to 50,000 upvotes needed to put up any link and keep it there... and we will get paid upvotes in comments section for showing our supoort on reddit but the important point is that we will have the 240 million users of reddit all focusing on this new steemit.com posts that we can propel out onto the FRONT PAGE ... that would promote steem to social media demographic that fits! There are many articles abiut "secret to reddit karma" which is almost the same as colldeting steempower but karma is not worth anuthing and you cant even transfer it around... Untill we are that popular we should not kid ourselves and we shoukd use reddit and instagram to promote steemit since reddit has 240 million and instagram over 1 BILLION users and just imagine .... inagine all the guides that teach people how to get karma on steem... just replace karma with steempower and the ssmd rules aplly to steem! Reddit is one of the leading website. It can bring lots of traffic because it has huge user base.
The most important thing is it's a network of people who are connected because of same interest. The amount of engagement we get on Reddit is better than any other social media.

I'm waiting for it. I'm not tied to steemit.com, if busy, chainbb, zappl, steepshot, or whatever other frontend manages to filter steemit content by rep, post date, author SP and that kind of stuff, with the option to make lists (like on Twitter), I predict curation will become a LOT more popular.
I really have very much respect for all curators nowadays, I don't know how they do it, but I suspect the work is extremely tedious and difficult...
I think the perceived restrictions is to enable the community grow healthily stead..

Could be. Interesting hypothesis, but I don't think this is done on purpose. It's just the current situation.
Since curation is probably the number one most important thing here and most curators are just dying for more filtering tools, I can imagine it will come soon.
I'd be more than happy to share my links if I ever find a relevent sub for them, lol. Not sure game reviews, Funko pop collecting, Fortnite videos (The BR sub is a mess of spam) or writing posts about my cat will fit in much on the site though.
I do think this is a great suggestion though when it's applicable, and will help bring in some extra attention to the site. Hopefully a few people at least after seeing this will give it a try!

I'm working on a twitter bot that would post trending steemit articles on twitter for just this purpose. I'm working in the "Liberty" niche (https://streemian.com/rss/liberty/trending) but could be EASILY changed up for other niches!

@acidyo I think we should work on user retention levels first. As new accounts are being made everyday but most of the new users leave the platform within a month. This is really alarming.
If we are able to retain new users then they will tell 10's of their friends about the platform and the community will automatically grow. And everybody knows that word of mouth is the most powerful. But if new users are leaving the platform, there is a huge possibility that they may spread negativity about the platform.
Why new user leave after a few days is a completely different question. There are a huge lot of different reasons for that, but the biggest is that posts by minnows are not getting any audience, even if they write some good posts.
I wrote a complete post about this topic, and if anyone is interested, they may go to my profile and read my most recent post. I didn't include the link here as then people would think that i am spamming. Thank you for reading.
Good comment. I came and left (not like THAT you dirty minds haha) but yeah seriously I came and went and came and went, often having months where I didn't read or post anything... so retention is a big thing.
My personal reason at first was because I saw what seemed like average posts making lots of money when I and many others weren't making much at all. I now am here for the long haul but not because of financial rewards at all but because I've found people and communities, challenges and such that keep me interested. Now I don't think about reward at all and to be honest the rewards are so small if that was my goal I'd be better off just doing more hours at work.... 20 cents for spending 4 hours on a piece of art to share or $40 an hour at work, not a tough choice.
Also it's a bit hard to understand, the Steemit system and crypto in general. People aren't going to stay if all the top articles are always about Bitcoin and crypto if they can't understand it nor if they are putting hours of their life into and not getting much out of their time be it financial, spiritual, knowledge, pleasure, friendships or whatever each case may be.
It's a shame and I hope they can figure it out or someplace like Reddit might come along and make a Redditcoin and then Steemit really has no chance.

Many may come to Steemit hoping for money. A look at the big rewards-earning posts may lead to the conclusion: This is easy. And they don't know that it's just the top 0.01%. As in real life.
And for many steemit seems a place to post and not so much to read. And to post articles written by other people. Indi ates: early days. 1990s internet.
I agree with several of the points you raised in this comment. First of all, bringing awareness that Steemit is a valuable platform outside of Facebook and Twitter. Both of those seem to be censoring or ghost banning independent, alternative voices. I am well aware of Google censorship and don't use the search engine any longer because of this. Personally, I decided to do a public campaign to draw more users over here to Steemit, even though my account has little to no audience right now. It's sad that many users stop posting here because their content isn't getting attention. I know exactly where they're coming from because it is disappointing to say the least when you right out comments and blogs and no one seems to be hearing a thing you're saying.

I think that views should be rewarded just like upvotes. Or you should at least have to view a page to upvote it. For example, right now this page has 343 votes and only 293 views. If we want only quality content to trend, we need people to read the articles and be discerning. Also, I think there should be some kind referral reward for external links that bring in new members.
I don't think views is an accurate representation of true views. A post can be viewed via steemit.com, busy.org, chainbb.com, esteem app, etc. I don't think "views" are part of the blockchain (and I don't see how they could be, nor do I think they should be), the view counter on steemit.com is probably only views via steemit.com.
Yeah I agree, but the only way to upvote the post is through steemit.com right? So my point still stands. There are a lot of people who upvote articles without reading them just to get the curation rewards. But the point of curation is to seek out quality content. So we should require people to at least look at the page if they are going to be able to upvote it.
No, the only way to upvote is not through steemit.com. A post can be upvoted by an account via any app or website or other software (including bots) that can interact with the blockchain with the account's private key.

That's a great idea, everyone who are active on Reddit must promote steem to get more traffic and users, as both platform share same intrest it's easiest to ask them to try something new and advanced.

most performing people on reddit are bloggers, reddit is so informative, it would be a great achievement if steemit gets some of that community, Quora too is a nice place to post steemit links

In my opinion, a big role in increasing the activity of Steemit was played by the price increases of SBD and steem.
I believe that the more Steem's popularity, the more its price.
If more users from reddit knew about steemit I'm almost positive they jump ship or at least make an account and explore the community. Steemit is everything reddit should have been in the first place. Of course new users who don't know anything about cryptocurrency or the blockchain will need a bit more convincing but the omcmunity is excellent for learning about all of this. Just 3 months ago I knew nothing and it's insane the amount of stuff I learn just by using Steemit and watching Dtube videos. I'd say in the near future....RIP Reddit and YouTube...maybe.
We sure do need to promote this digital community to which we all belong. It's for everyone's own sake that we share the platform to social media platforms to increase it's popularity.
