Dickpics, nudes, … Does “sexting” increase the risk of sexual risk behaviors in adolescents ?
Hi everybody !
Sexting seems to be a recent habit of teenagers. However, we do not know it's impact on sexual heatl of young people. So, Does “sexting” increase the risk of sexual risk behaviors in adolescents ?
This work, published in the The Journal of adolescent health by a team of US researchers, give us some answers: “7% of youth reported sending or showing someone sexual pictures of themselves, in which they were nude or nearly nude, online, via text messaging, or in person, during the past year. Although females and older youth were more likely to share sexual photos than males and younger youth, the profile of psychosocial challenge and sexual behavior was similar for all youth […] sharing sexual photos was associated with all types of sexual behaviors assessed (e.g., oral sex, vaginal sex) as well as some of the risky sexual behaviors examined-particularly having concurrent sexual partners and having more past-year sexual partners. Adolescents who shared sexual photos also were more likely to use substances and less likely to have high self-esteem than their demographically similar peers.”
I think all lot of things are said in this article: sexting is a risk factor for risky sexual behavior. It’s not just a teenager whim: it can hurt, it can be a source of blackmail, it can mark a person for life…
So if you’re a teenager don’t do that please, if you are parents be careful to avoid the diffusion of your child sexual pictures. You don’t need to send naked photos at 14 yo, do protect yourself !
