Just because superheroes are dominating the box office and many spaces on TV doesn't mean that everything done in that field is precisely good, I mean that beyond the large number of series and movies that are being made around superhero plots, many of the products that result are being really depressing. I'm saying this because my son recently told me about a series that he liked but that I didn't really like! The series is called Black Lightning and I thought it was a nightmare.

Black Lightning unlike other superhero series that start in a certain way telling us about the beginnings of a developing hero that has to face big enemies being a rookie, presents us with an already formed hero, a hero that has already won and lost battles but that unlike other heroes is already retired and happy taking care of his family.
Despite starting with an unusual narrative where we see the resurgence of a retired hero as a result of a group of incidents that make him return to action to protect the community and a group of young people who are being attacked by a group of mobster, the plot wobbles a lot and does not generate that adrenaline through action scenes that make us connect with a story of superheroes nothing innovative and that only stands out for being too reused.

The plot of season one is full of narrative holes that prevent the central story from developing properly and this is mainly because the creators wanted to make parallel stories instead of devoting themselves to making a single good story, that is to say, that the creators of this series beyond presenting us with the resurgence of our protagonist as a superhero, included second plots of transformation and discovery of powers (the daughters of Black Lightning) that feel too loaded, too fast and finally do not provide enough strength to make the whole central plot stand out.
Maybe I'm being too hard, but the truth is that this series has little to highlight, yes, at a visual level the effects, the photography and above all the CGI are very well used something that I appreciate because if in addition to having a weak story, also had bad effects seeing this series would have been a real torture (Sorry son, I did not like).

But beyond the good and bad I've highlighted, the worst thing about this series is undoubtedly the villain of the first season, a villain who in some way wants to imitate Kingpin (Spider-Man's villain), being that ruthless and super-evil thug who wants to destroy the hero for past events, but here the problem is that this villain does not generate absolutely anything, its participation in the plot is weak and never feel it is a real threat, basically, it is a clown plotting to put together a show that can not handle.
Anyway, I recommend you to see it for yourselves and draw your own conclusions, but the truth is that this series is too badly done, maybe with time it has improved because I noticed that it has several seasons, but the truth is that I am not willing to take risks with something that initially did not generate any fun.
