Objectives Key Result approach is used by many companies from the sillicon valey including google, twitter or dropbox. Even though oryginaly that approach was supposed to be used by the companies you can use it by yourself to measure your progress and achieved results. OKR relys on periodic (monthly) checking of progress in achieving goals and a quarterly summary that will help draw conclusions and get better results in the future.
OKR
3 basic elements of the OKR are
- Objective - Ambitious goal, goal to achieve, which can not be measured.
- Key Result - Measurable results that will allow us to assess whether we have achieved our Objectives
- Actions - Actions thanks to which we will be able to achieve particular key results
We should never set too many Objectives and assign too many Key results for each Key result we must specify a few actions. OKR method answers on 3 questions - What direction should i choose? Answer to that question are Objectives - I would like to be most known blogger on the platform X
- How can we know that we have achieved objectives? Answer to that question are Key results - 5% share in the reward pool
- What i need to do to achieve Objectives and Key Results? Answer to that question are Actions - Create more quality content.
Steemit example
- Objective -Be the best blogger on the steemit
1.1 Key Result 1 - 1# place in number of views.
1.1.1 Action 1 - Promote content outside the steem blockchain.
1.1.2 Action 2 - Create custom graphics for each post.
1.1.3 Action 3 - Promote posts using biding bots(one may not like that point)
1.2 Key Result 2 - 3000 new followers
1.2.1 Action 1 - Respond to comments to make a connection with readers
1.2.2 Action 2 - Organize competitions for the readers
1.2.3 Action 3 - Encourage people from other places to join steem network
1.3 Key Result 3 - Top 3 place in the reward pool shares
1.3.1 Action 1 - Regularly create posts
1.3.2 Action 2 - Create posts in the series instead of accidental content
1.3.3 Action 3 - Get involved in other steem-related places - chats, events etc.
So to sum up OKR consists of three steps
- Define OKRs - planning and execution - quarterly
- Review and measurement - once per month, once per 2 weeks
- Summary and drawing conclusions - go back to 1st step- quarterly
OKR is an easy approach that can bring significant benefits. Its most difficult part is how to define Objectives and Key results and how to keep motivated to continuously perform the planned actions.
