RE: A safe word for my wife

in #security5 years ago

I always wanted to cut a box in the basement cement floor with ventilation and power and run a NAS there. Deep enough that a fire wouldn't affect it. I am not sure it would even work but I always wanted a solution that would stay at home and be theft proof. In addition to offsite backups as well.

Sort:

I think it would be, as there are fireproof safes (I am sure there is a limitation. I live in an apartment building however.

In a house, I would like to bury a room (there are premade units available) to survive fires and some other factors for the short-term. Perhaps under normal circumstances, it could be an entertainment area to separate it out from the house for sound insulation.

Fireproof safes are notoriously bad.

They vary dramatically in how well they perform but none of them are close to what they claim.

Yep, there are massive variations in them, some are better than others. Like everything I guess. I used to sell office crap once upon a time and there were a few fireproof safes, with the cheapest being completely useless. Some companies had to have them by law. The hospital had ones that we didn't come even close to stocking - but then they had other systems to safe guard too.
